Faelas traipsed lightly along. His long brown hair, gilded gold by the sun, was drawn back with a ribbon. Earthy colors sheathed his lean frame and long legs. A belt and dagger adorned his slender waist, and across his chest he bore the straps of his pack and bedroll, which hung against his back. His young face shone brightly at the prospect of the journey.

Faelas did not know Redmion, Ferlion, and the others well. He felt flummoxed as to why Elrond would send his five best warriors on a mission that was supposed to be a mere visit to the Elvenking and an accompaniment for himself. Faelas was used to it though. He was always trailed by at least a few ere he set foot from the airy structures of Imladris.

There were some among the elves who could sense weather ahead of time. A heavy snowstorm would come to the mountain heights a week hence, and so Elrond had bidden Faelas depart Rivendell ahead of schedule. Faelas lamented the loss of his rest but, this would at least allow him a respite in the Woodland Realm instead before his studies with Adamion commenced.

He did not miss his guardian, Rondor, though he would always wish him well. He had endured more lectures about greatness upon his leaving, Rondor insisting that success was marked by prestige and Adamion's tutorship was the way to achieve it. Rondor's favorite past time seemed to be explaining how he knew best regarding every subject.

The journey through the alpine meadows was pleasant, for the lupines, lilies, and other wildflowers were already in bloom. The floral, earthy scent of spring infused the cool breeze and here and there animals could be seen preparing to have families. Some Faelas had never seen the like of before, but they all felt the same to him no matter what their species. Each time he saw a being of fur or feather or scale, he felt a joyful wobble in his heart.
