After being sat in the same hospital bed for a few days longer than expected due to timing problems, and let's face it, the hurrendous workforce (bar Dr Daniels, a fairly good looking, young trainee guy) I was eventually home.

The taxi door swung open before me, revealing my brother who was now leaning forward to help me out.

"Come on." Ashton spoke quietly, his arm draped over my shoulder, holding me up-right, even though I could still walk. He was just being protective, like always.

I breathed out a small muffled laugh as I shook my head, taking his arm away from me.

"Violet, you'r-"

I barely had time to turn my head towards the direction the voice was coming from before Ashton lunged forward, legs carrying him over to Jake who was stood moments away from my apartment.

"You, get away from us." Ashton spoke firmly, his voice low as he edged forward towards my now ex-boyfriend.

"I d-"

Ashton plunged his body forward into Jake's, his hand reaching forward as he took hold of the material from Jake's shirt, his height seeming taller as he towered over him.

"You can't say anything, that will make me forgive what you did to her." Ashton said quietly, his head inches away from Jake's cowardly expression, his eyes staring back towards Ashton's intense glare.

I watched in shock as Jake leaned away, Ashton's firm hand staying locked tight on the collar of his clothing.

"Vi-" Jake tried to speak.

"Don't ever say her name again!" Ashton screamed, grabbing hold of Jake's chin and walking each of themselves backwards so Jake's back hit the door of his car.

Just as I thought it couldn't get any worse, Ashton lifted his other hand up to Jake's head, his fingers curled under to form a fist.

"Ashton!" I shouted, walking towards them both. I didn't want to do this, but at the same time I couldn't bare to watch.

My brother turned his head to face me as I caught the sight of Jake's sneer expression. I shook my head in disappointment.

Jake leant forward towards Ashton so there were now stood at eye-level, roughly moving to the side to get Ashton to take his grip away from his shirt. Jake mumbled some words, his mouth close enough so Ashton would understand what he was saying. I don't know what, but whatever it was...it was at least something to let Ashton pull away.

"Don't come back here." Ashton scoffed as he turned his back, walking back up towards me as he took hold of my waist again.

"Let's head in Vi." He said quietly.

"Are you sure about that Ash?"

I heard behind me, Jake shouting to my brother as I saw him pace towards us both. Ashton picked up the pace to the front door as I followed, my head still turned to Jake.

"Hey? Ashton!" Jake's voice became louder, trying to get my brother's attention until the slammed front door blocked it out.

"What was he shouting at you like that for? W-" I tried to ask, but he cut me off, mid-speech.

"No need to worry Vi."

Ashton strolled past me towards the kitchen, leaving me stood waiting for answers. I held my arm out to him, opening my mouth to speak but I just couldn't seem to form a sentence in my head. He said not to worry like it was simple. But it wasn't. I sighed and pursed my lips as I shook my head, telling myself to let it go.
