*next day*

I brushed on another layer of mascara on my eyelashes as I looked into the mirror in the hall, bringing my head back once I'd done my makeup. I observed my outfit, lightly sighing as I brushed nonexistent dirt off my skirt. It was actually sunny today, which was rare, as living in England means it rains almost every day.

I opened the front door after saying a quick goodbye to Ashton, having another awkward conversation this morning about Dan, without Jake in the house, that is.

My skin instantly absorbed the heat as I stepped outside, my eyes squinting at the sudden brightness from the sun. I turned around and sluggishly rooted in my bag for my keys, finding them, and locking the door as I did a small run down the front porch steps, leading me out on to the pavement outside my apartment.

I arrived at Dan's house in no time, getting lost listening to the music from my headphones which made me almost forget where I was supposed to be going. I leant up to the door and rang the doorbell, trying to contain my smile as I stepped back down and waited for Dan to answer.

He opened the door a few seconds later, appearing wearing glasses and his hair in a total mess.

"Hey." He murmured, his voice holding a hint of huskiness from the early morning.

"Hi.. I replied, adjusting the bag strap on my shoulder.

"Sorry...I wasn't expecting you this early." He confessed, glancing behind his shoulder and inviting me in to his house.

"Oh, don't apologize, I would have told you I was coming over.." I laughed as I stepped inside. "..but I-"

"It's cool. Make yourself comfortable..I'll just be a sec." He muttered, lifting a finger in the air as he chucked to himself. He lead me into the living room and quickly ran back upstairs.

I strolled in slowly, observing the items scattered around the room, dozens of cardboard boxes stacked up one on top of another, labelled with black pen.

I threw my rucksack on the sofa and sat down next to it as my eyes continued to glance around the room.

Dan entered momentarily, with his hair slightly neater, carrying something in his hand. I squinted my eyes at him as if asking before he explained.

"It's my contact lenses. I better put them in." He laughed as he began to pass by me, walking towards the mirror parallel to him.

Without thinking I held my arm out to the side as I sat forward, grabbing Dan's arm and stopping him in his actions.

"Hey, Dan.." I began to say as he looked down at me and his eyes glanced down to where my fingers where latched on to his wrist. I reluctantly removed them as I smiled back at him.

"..don't."

"Hmm?" He responded, raising his eyebrows.

"Don't put your contacts in. I like your glasses. They're hot." I laughed, instantly regretting the choice of words.

He awkwardly ran a hand through strands of his hair before turning back and laughing, walking up to me and sitting down on the table infront.

"Thanks." He replied blushing a little.

I smiled and began glancing around the room again, his eyes following wherever mine went.

"So..do you want anything to drink? Eat?" He asked.

"No...it's okay, I've had breakfast."

"Really? I haven't."

"Oh, well don't mind me, if you want some, you can go and make some." I offered, finding it hard to keep direct eye contact.

"It's fine, I'll just get something when we go out."

"Okay." I smiled.

This was like torture, all we were doing right now was making small talk, avoiding the elephant in the room. This was harder than I thought it was going to be. I didn't want this, I wanted..I don't know what. It was almost as if he read my mind when he suddenly started speaking.

"Let's go out. Do something." He exclaimed.

"Wha-"

"We can't just stay in here all day."

"We can't?"

"No." He smiled as he stood up unexpectedly.

"Come on, let's do something crazy.." He muttered, pulling me up by my arms, making me gasp in surprise. I bumped into his chest as I breathed heavily, clearing my throat as I looked back down at the floor and turned away.

"So.." I began saying as I placed my hair behind my ear. "Where do you wanna go?"

"I have a place in mind." He smiled as he handed my bag back to me. I placed it back on my shoulder and scuffed my shoes on the carpet.

"Okay..where? I asked, beaming back up at him.

"Well.." He began, taking my hands and leading me out the door. "If I tell you, it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it?"
