"It won't happen again, I pr-"
"I sure well hope not Violet.." Steve pursed his lips, pausing for a moment as he looked straight at me.
"You should know, I'm going to be knocking some off your wages." He paused again as if waiting for me to complain; instead I simply nodded, I wasn't in the right mindset to argue today.
"Right..now there's a list of jobs in the back. Get to work."
I sighed briefly after he had gone, walking into the back door, putting my bag in my usual pigeon hole and having a quick swig of a bottle of water before 'getting to work'.
Not that any of the jobs were any I had hoped to be doing today, but I chose the most pleasing one first - as you would - and decided to do that. Which was put out new deliveries.
About halfway through this unbelievably boring task, a familiar voice of someone entered the store, making me turn around to see if it was who it seemed, Dan.
"Hi violet." He had a large smile placed on his face, although it looked as if he was trying to contain it.
"Oh..hey." I forced a smile before getting on with what I was previously doing.
"You know.." He said, adjusting his rucksack straps as he spoke to the floor. "I don't think I've ever slept that well in my life!" He looked back up towards me as I placed a book on the shelf opposite, not reacting.
I huffed a small laugh to show what was supposed to look like a hint of interest.
"So..you probably haven't.." He laughed a little, moving one strap on his shoulder. "Urm, have you told Jake..about last night.."
I thought about what he had said, but then furrowed my brow and replied.
"I don't really think there's much to tell, so just keep it quiet okay." I muttered quietly as I turned my head to look around the shop, then back to Dan again, who's smile was fading.
"What?"
"I can't talk right now!" I said sternly as I held a book out to my side before checking the title and beginning to find the correct shelf.
"I get it that you're at work but th-"
"But what? I don't need this today!" I exclaimed, shoving the book on the shelf and fast walking over to the other isle. Dan followed quickly.
"You don't need this? Why are you acting like this all of a sudden?" He said in disbelief as he came closer to me, raising his eyebrows.
"Why are you making such a big deal over nothing?"
There was a long pause before I dis-continued to stare and pick up an empty cardboard box, taking it with me on the way to the back door.
"You can't tell me last night meant nothing to you?" He said, asking it like a question. I ignored.
"D- just leave me alone." I shook my head.
"Well you weren't saying that last night!"
I sighed and threw the box down to the floor, watching as his eyes seemed as if they were changing colour, from light to dark. As well as his feelings.
"Look, I'm working." I stated obviously, yanking open the back doors as I dragged the box through with one hand.
"You can't just ignore me!" He exclaimed, holding the doors open for me as I stood up straight and watched him follow me inside.
"Yeah, actually I can."
"Violet..is everything okay over here?" A voice interrupted, causing me to turn around and see Steve stood there with a cigarette inbetween his fingers as he blew smoke through his lips. He was on his break.
