"And here is your receipt, have a good day."

I thanked the young gentleman, grabbed my coffee and scone and went to sit down at a small table near a window in the café.

I leaned back against my chair and occupied myself, reading and rereading the menu placed on the table as Nina ordered her food. I took a sip of my coffee before setting it back down, taking a small bite of my desert.

"So.." Nina started to say as she began to walk up to me, placing her tray of food on the table and sitting down. "Let's talk."

"What's this about?" I asked as I stirred my drink with the wooden spoon I was given.

"Right..do you remember yesterday at work, there was that guy at the bookstore.."

"Wait..who?" I replied quickly.

"This guy...I..I can't really remember his name...he had brown blackish hair?"

Dan.

Why does he keep showing up everywhere I go?

"Anyway..he's in a band with Kyle! How weird is that right...a-"

My eyes widened at her comment about Kyle. So they were in a band together after all. I was looking at Nina but I suddenly stopped listening as she trailed off. My eyes moved away from her over to the window beside me. I watched a man who worked here clean a table and gather some cups in his hand, bringing them in with him and taking them behind the counter. Another old aged gentleman began to cross the road outside with help from a young woman. I looked up at the sky to see it was infact, really sunny out today. I hadn't even noticed.

"And yeah..so what have you got to say about that?" Nina asked, eyes focused on me as she flicked her hair behind her shoulder.

I smiled at Nina and realised I hadn't even been listening to her. I came here to talk and wasn't even paying attention, what was I doing?

"Violet?"

"What?"

"Were you even listening just then?"

I stayed quiet at her remark, drinking my coffee slowly.

"Right..I'll tell you again but you have to be listening this time okay?" She snapped, as if treating me like a four year old.

"Yeah..sorry, I'm listening." I mumbled, playing with the zip on my jacket.

"Right, so last night at Kyle's party.."

*last night*

Dan's POV:

I was on my way to Kyle's party; I'd been invited. It was pouring down with rain by now, that had started just after I stopped talking to Violet..she was already out of sight by now,and I was left confused. I looked behind me quickly, she was nowhere in sight. I dashed across the street, the rain pouring down on to my hair, flattening it as it gathered water droplets. They dripped down my face; much to my annoyance, making me use my hand to push my hair back out of the way. I checked my watch as I accidentally stepped into yet another puddle today; my old, ruined converse not at all helping to keep the water out and soaking my feet. It was nearly midnight but no doubt the party would still be going, I thought to myself.

I've never been one for parties and gatherings but today I felt I had to get my mind off everything for a while and just go. At this time normally, I would probably just be awake at home, writing shitty songs if I couldn't sleep and feeling sorry for myself.

I walked up to Kyle's front door, the pop music could already be heard from outside, the heavy beat jamming in to my ears as I opened the door.

This was a bad idea, I thought, walking in and reluctantly shutting the door behind me, causing it to click. Violet was probably already home by now, with her boyfriend. I didn't even.. know her, but I couldn't help myself from thinking. Thinking about her.
