The door clicked as I unlocked it, I stepped in, suddenly seeing a pair of navy converse sitting in the hallway. I furrowed my eyebrows before putting my bag down and taking my leather jacket off, hanging it up on one of the hooks.

"Vi? Is that you?"

I instantly recognised his voice. It couldn't be...could it? I placed my hair behind my ear and turned the corner into the living room.

"Ash?"

I walked in, seeing my older brother sat on the sofa looking over the top of it, smiling at me.

"Ashton! It's you, oh m-"

"I decided to come pay you a visit." He replied, holding his arms out infront of him as he began to stand.

I ran over to him, running into his arms as I bumped into him with a thud. We both laughed before I hugged him, instantly recognizing, remembering, everything about him. His familiar scent, his voice; which sounded unusually deeper..probably just the length of time we haven't seen each other for is so long I forgot everything since. He works a lot, always going abroad and away from home..I haven't seen him in 2 years, well, in person. We speak on the phone from time to time but it's never the same.

"What are you doing here?!" I exclaimed as I pulled away, his arms still locked firmly around my waist. I missed this, seeing my family. I missed him.

"Nice to see you too!" He shouted sarcastically as he walked back over to sit down, taking a crisp out of the bowl set on the table that he had probably got out of the cupboard. I smiled, knowing he had already made himself comfortable in my own home. Or infact, just raided the cupboards.

"You know what I mean." I muttered, lightly nudging him on the shoulder as I sat down next to him.

"I got a break from work for a while..so, I decided to come visit you! Oh, and good trick with the key under the door mat, you should probably move that actually.." He replied, trailing off as he squinted his eyes and laughed.

"Yeah..well it's good to see you anyway." I giggled, grabbing the bowl of crisps and placing them between us on the sofa.

"So what do you wanna do tonight?" Ashton asked, taking a crisp out of the bowl. It amazed me how well he already fit in to my home, my life.

"We could...erm, ugh.. it doesn't matter." I mumbled, cutting off mid-sentence as I threw my head back and groaned.

"Are you sure about that?"

"Yes." I replied quietly, slouching back into the sofa cushions.

"Violet." Ashton said firmly, staring at me.

"What?"

"What's the matter?" He asked, his voice going more softer. He took the bowl of crisps and put it back on the table next to us.

"It's nothing." I muttered, trying to let the subject drop as I fidgeted with the blanket strings beside me.

"Vi."

"Ok it's just..I was going to go and see this guy play in this ba-"

"Ooh a guy!" He joked.

"Ash, stop..you know I'm with Jake."

"Oh yeah, that dick."

"Ashton!" I shouted.

"He is. And you know it!" He replied as he stood up.

I shook my head, taking another crisp out of the bowl as I moved my hair out of my eyes. I suddenly heard the familiar click of the front door once again, hearing footsteps in the hallway. It was Jake.

"Oh, hi." I muttered as I smiled at him. He mimicked my actions, raising his eyebrows as the sides of his mouth curled upwards slightly.

"We were just talking about you." Ashton shouted as Jake walked away into the kitchen, the sound of his keys being dropped on to the marble surface.

"All good things I hope! I heard Jake call back from the kitchen.

It never failed to shock me how oblivious he was to the fact that Ashton was, well...here. He didn't even look at him and already knew who it was. They never got on well, even when we were younger there was always something between them..I never knew what it was but some sort of tension, anyway. Ashton is 23, Jake is 20..and even now, they still practically hate each other.

I rolled my eyes at Ashton before picking up a cushion off the sofa and throwing it at him, receiving a shocked look back at him but I could tell he didn't really care.

"Hey!" He exclaimed, holding his  hands up in the air. He pretended to throw it back at myself before placing it back down.

"Idiot." I muttered under my breath, beginning to walk upstairs.

"I heard that." He laughed. I giggled along with him.

"Hey...you didn't even tell me where we were going tonight!" Ashton shouted back up the stairs. I was already half way up them by now, I turned around seeing him left clueless behind me.

"I didn't even tell you that we were going anywhere."

"Well are we?" He asked, making me turn my back again. I bit my lip, I still didn't know what to do about this situation.

"I'll think about it." I mumbled, walking the rest of the way up the stairs.
