I held the written address in my hand, looking up at the wooden door infront of me; number 16. I gulped and slowly walked up the steps, my boots making clicking noises on the concrete.

I breathed out heavily, looking back down one more time at the address before folding the already crumpled piece of paper and shoving it in my jeans pocket. I held my hand up and pressed the doorbell lightly, chewing the inside of my lip and standing still.

I waited for Dan to answer, nervously waiting as I fidgeted with my hands, looking for something to occupy me. It was so quiet that all I could hear was the sound of the wind howling behind me, a few birds in the distance. I swear I could have heard Dan's footsteps as he walked towards the front door.

The door opened in one swift movement. My eyes looked up to see Dan, he wore a grey hoodie, his hair was styled up like always..it was crazy, but I liked it. I smiled, putting a strand of hair behind my ear before he spoke.

"Hi..thanks for coming." He muttered, holding his hand out to the side of himself, inviting me in without feeling the need to say it.

I stepped inside, looking at his eyes as I walked past him. He smiled before looking back down, shutting the door behind him. He leant against it, putting his hands behind his back. I turned around, my eyes scanning the hallway; full of old pictures and pieces of paper scattered around on his keyboard; dust forming on the piano keys. I smiled as I looked back to him, holding up a picture he owned; photographed, was a much younger version of himself and who I presumed was his mum and dad. I heard him walk over to me as he groaned, laughing at the same time.

"You were so cute back then, what happened?" I laughed, observing the photograph as he snatched it out of my hand, pressing it against his chest and shaking his head.

"That, was a long time ago." He laughed, setting it back down on the table beside us.

"We all have a childhood Dan." I replied, looking back at him over my shoulder as I turned around. I ran my finger over his piano keys, gathering dust on my hand as I noticed written notes on crumpled pieces of A4 placed on top of his keyboard. I picked one up, turning around to face him as I cleared my throat, reading it aloud.

"Words are Words by Dan Smith."

His eyes went wide as he practically ran up to me, I turned around, still holding the written lyrics in my hand as I felt his hands move either side of me, trying but failing to take it back off me.

I started laughing as I held it higher than his arms would allow. Even though he was a lot taller than me I still managed to keep hold of it for a little longer, trying to read the words on the page as he began laughing along with me.

"Some..things in life are so...what does that say..oh, serious." I mumbled, reaching it higher above me, Dan's gestures getting ignored.

"Violet." He complained.

I quickly walked over to the other side of the room, my attempt at getting away from him failing; I came to a stop as my back hit the wall. I looked behind me to see a cold surface as I sighed, Dan was now right infront of me.

He took me by suprise by slamming his hand on the pages I held above my head, causing them to hit the wall and fall to the ground. He moved forwards so he was now pressed firmly against me, his height looming over myself as I looked at him intently. I almost couldn't help myself, feeling my body lean in to his as my eyes began to close. He stopped my actions before taking steps back and running a hand through his messed up hair and scraping it back.

"I'm sorry about yesterday." He finally spoke, cutting the tension as he looked down at the ground.

"Dan." I sighed, moving my body off the wall.

"No Violet..I don't know what came over me-"

"Honestly, it's okay." I insisted, taking steps towards him as he looked back up and moved away.

"No, no, it's not okay! Do you think it's okay for me to want this?" He practically shouted, raising his voice. There was a sudden silence in the room before I replied.

"Want what?" I muttered, looking into his eyes for some sort of answer to my question.

"You see what I mean, you just..you don't understand."

I frowned at his remark, biting the inside of my lip as I inched closer towards him again.

"I do understand..please j-"

"No! I could never tell you." His voice cracked at the end, forming almost into a whisper.

"You can tell me." I informed, trying to sound reassuring.

"I can't violet!"

"Talk to me..what, what do you want Dan?!"

"I-"

He got cut off by a sudden noise coming from upstairs, it sounded like..footsteps. I looked up the staircase, gulping as I did so, turning back to Dan for some sort of explanation.

He raised an eyebrow in confusion, walking away from me and putting his hand on the staircase barrier, leaning against it as he shouted upstairs.

"Kyle? Is that you?"

The features on my face settled once I knew who it was, atleast. I rubbed one of my eyes as I turned away from Dan, sighing.

"Yeah." Kyle yelled back.

I heard more footsteps from upstairs, getting louder as Kyle approached us, standing at the top of the stairs and looking down at us. He smiled at Dan, raising his eyebrows as he looked back at me, his eyes widening as if he didn't expect to see me here.

"Oh hi Violet!" He exclaimed, holding a hand up and waving it at me. I exchanged the gesture before giving him a smile. He turned around and walked back to where he originally came over from before Dan called him.

"If you're wondering..he stayed over last night cause, cause..well, he was drunk. Really drunk, and that bitch Nina bailed on him..soo basically, I was his best bet." Dan explained, turning around to face me and walking towards where I was stood.

I laughed at his comment about Nina, she can be a real bitch at times. I laughed at my own thoughts, looking back up at Dan. I had no idea what else we were going to say to one another, I still wanted to know what Dan was going to say just a few seconds ago but it just wasn't the right time to bring it up now. The moment had passed.

"So..I better be going." I informed, turning my back to Dan and opening the door infront of me. I get it, that what I just did was abit sudden but I couldn't take it back now..what had happened had happened.

"You're leaving?" Dan muttered behind me, it almost felt like he had a hint of sadness in his voice. I gulped and turned around, smiling at him and pretending to check my watch.

"Yeah..I have to meet someone." I lied. Right here..with Kyle here too, it just wasn't the right time or place to talk to Dan.

"Well if you gotta go," Dan began to say, looking down at his chuck taylors and sarcastically laughing to himself. I stepped closer to him as the door blew open wider, the cold wind nipping at every inch of exposed skin on my body.

"I'll see you soon." I assured him, looking into his eyes for the last time before turning my back and walking down the steps.
