Flora's POV

We are in the train waiting for the rest of the passangers to take their seats. It is quiet. No one is bothering each other. Well, that's not quite true. Mr. Barry is snoring the life out of himself and Anne keeps telling her stories. Diana is listening, carefully, often commenting little things that can make the story better. Mrs. Barry is reading a book. She occasionally wipes her tears in a little piece of fabric, saying "This is a very sad chapter."

I am gazing out of the window, looking at all the trees and flowers and thinking.

Gilbert Blythe. His image keeps popping up in my head and it disturbs me. How come someone can make me think about them so much even though I have just spoken a few words to them.

"Hello, there." Says a voice coming from the train isle. I turn to the isle and pretend not to be surprised. Was he reading my mind or what? Gilbert Blythe is standing in the train and is looking straight at me.

"Oh my, Gilbert!" Mrs. Barry looks up from her book at the tall boy. "It's been so long since I last saw you." She says smiling. "And you." She says, looking at a man behind Glibert. The man wears a smile on his face and has chocolate brown skin. In his arms is the sweetest looking baby. I smile at the baby and she smiles back.

"Yes, it is nice to see you Mrs. Barry." Says the man.

"Oh, Florence." Gilbert looks at me. "You haven't met Sebastian."

"So you are the Florence Gilbert always talks about." Sebastian reaches out his hand for me to shake. Gilbert warningly coughs at Sebastian's comment but does not interfere any more.

"It's nice to meet you, Sebastian." I say, shaking his hand. "And who is this?" I look at the baby in his arms.

"This is my daughter Delphine. Say hi, Delly." The little girl waves her tiny palms at me, making me smile.

"She's adorable." I wave back at her.

They take the compartment beside us and I can't help but look to their direction, or better, his direction.

"Why do you keep doing that?" I hear Diana say.

"Doing what?" I ask confused.

"Staring at him." She looks at me like it's obvious. "Leave the poor boy alone, Flora." She says giggling. "But it would be cute though. You and him. It would be really-"

"Stop." I interrupt her. "That's not what this is." I tell her. And I'm not lying. That's NOT what this is. He's just a very handsome boy. That's it.

Gilbert's POV

I take the seat opposite from Sebastian and look at the compartment beside us. I catch Flora looking at me, but she quickly looks away.

"Tell me." Says Sebastian, looking at me. I wait for him to say the rest of his sentence but he doesn't.

"Tell you what?" I ask, looking back at him.

"Tell me whatever you're thinking. Because I know that you're thinking about that girl, Blythe." Sebastian laughs at me. He has been mocking me ever since I first mentioned Florence's name.

"I've barely spoken to her. And there is certainly at least one person that has cought her eye."

"That person seems to be you." He gestures with his head towards the Barrys compartment, and there she is, still looking over at us... at me.

***
The train stops and everyone gets up, getting their luggage. I get up and bump into a person.

"Sorry." Says the voice that I've come to recognise as Florence. She has a shy smile on her face and I can see the redness fill her cheeks. Only now can I see her face so close. Her eyes sparkle. Her lips are rosey and look as soft as ever and her hair is long all the way down to her back.

"No, it was my fault" I say. I notice her trying to carry her suit case. "Here, let me help." I grab onto her suit case, lifting it up.

"Thank you."

"My pleasure." She walks out of the train, helping Anne with her bag. She truely is a good friend.

Getting out, I lay Flora's suit case down gently beside her and Diana. Flora smiles at me and I smile back. For a moment I don't know what to do. Should I just... leave? No. That's impolite. Should I just stand here and look at her the way she's looking at me? My body moves uncontiously towards her and I leave a kiss on her cheek. My face flushes and I scream eternally, trying to figure out why I just did that.

"I'll be on my way now." And that's when I walk away. I don't turn back, afraid that she'll see my flushed state.

Flora's POV

"Did he just...-"

"Kiss you?" Diana laughs. "Yes." She answers. "He did."

"Oh, goodness." What I feel in my stomach is undescribable.

"You're still staring." she whispers to me. I don't even stop this time. Mesmorised by the feeling of his gentle lips on my cheek, I keep my eyes on the back of his head as he walks away. I'll see him tomorrow. Hopefully.
