Christmas Day

Floras POV.

"Hey, wake up." Warm lips press onto my cheek, and then an arm wraps itself around my limp, naked body. The sun peeked at me through the curtains making me scrunch my eyes tighter. I let out a grunt, covering my face with my hand. "Merry Christmas, Love." He whispers in my ear. A smile brightens my face. I turn to him under the covers.

"Merry Christmas, Gilbert." I lean into him, kissing him passionately.

"Here." He reaches behind him, grabbing something from the nightstand and handing it to me. It's a small, velvet green box. A beautiful box.

"What's this?" I ask him.

"A gift. Open it." He kisses my forehead, encouraging me to open the gift.

I open the gift. A beautiful green emerald sits on top of a golden ring. My jaw drops at the sight of it, and my eyes widen. I sit up, my breasts fully exposed, but what do I care?

"Gilbert..." I try to form words, but I stutter.

"It was given to my mother by my father. He took it off her finger when he knew she wasn't going to make it." He says. He moves the ring from the case and places it on my right hand, middle finger. "It's a promise ring."

I feel myself smiling, but I might have been crying. The ring shone on my finger, like it was made to be there.

Looking at Gilbert, I leap into his embrace, kissing every inch of him that I can.

"I promise... to always be by your side. Even when you do stupid things." He says as I giggle. "I promise to only leave this house if our relationship is in good conditions. I promise to take care of you. I promise to give you the most comfort it's humanly possible to giv-" I interrupt him.

"Shut up. You're gonna make me cry." I single drop falls down to my chin and he chuckles. "I promise to always love you." He finishes.

This is it. I have found it. The book romance. The one that gives you butterflies. This is my story, where I am the main character, and I have found the other part of me. My other half. Even though sometimes I thought he was my enemy. No- I didn't think so. The universe did. The universe thought he was my enemy. But, he's so far from that.

"Okay, it's your turn." I sniffle.

"My turn?"

"To open your gift!" I exclaim, grabbing a royal blue envelope sealed with red wax from my side of the bed.

"You got me something?" He asks.

"Do you really think I wouldn't?" I ask him, cocking my head to the side. He smiled at me.

Gilbert's POV.

I open the envelope, sliding my fingers and and grabbing whatever is inside. I look at what I have in my hands before looking at back at her.

"You bought tickets to Trinidad?" My smile widens.

"I did. I was hoping we could go on Monday. Me, you, Bash and Delly. I don't think she's ever been to Trinidad."

With a smile on my face, I grabbed for her waist and brought her down close to me. "I think she'll really like that. So will Bash and I. Thank you." I kiss her.

Flora's POV.

I get up from the bed, rushing to put on a robe and ran out of the bedroom and into the living room. Bash is sat on a chair with his back to me as he feeds Delly, who is on his lap. I leap forward and hug him from behind.

"Merry Christmas, Sebastian!" A shriek, making him chuckle. "And to you too, Delly." I kissed her chubby cheek as giggles.

"Merry Christmas, Florence!"

So much has happened this Christmas. In the span of a few weeks,  I have been robbed of my money, had an illegal abortion, almost died on the floor of a train station from loss of blood, had to deal with a very nasty professor and I still made it be a pretty decent Christmas day. Gifts are exchanged, laughs as well, and for the first time in a long while, it feels like I have a family again. I feel like my happiness can be restored. It's normal to not feel complete, especially after going through everything that happened to me, but I feel like it will slowly come back to me.

A knock is heard from the front door and I stand up, putting my teacup down. I open the door, but I am not surprised to see the familiar face on the other side.

"Can I help you?" I ask.

"Merry Christmas." Mrs. Barry comes closer. She waits a second, expecting me to say something, so I do.

"Likewise." I say dryly.

She pulls a little piece of paper from her purse and hands it to me.

"I don't need gifts from you." I tell her.

She shakes her head. "It's not a gift."

I look down at the paper she has extended to me and I don't know if I should take it or not. But curiosity comes over me and I take it from her gloved hand.

It's a $50'000'000 check.

Holy shit.

Hold your horses. My parents never had this much money. They always told me they didn't have much.

"What is this?" I ask her.

"The money I owe you." She explains.

I feel myself go speechless. No it is not.

"That's not my parents' money."

"Yes it is." She tells me. "In fact, it's not all of it. I wasn't able to get a hold of the rest. But, I will, just please don't get a lawyer involved-"

"I won't." I tell her truthfully. I don't want her walking around with weight around her back with fear of a lawsuit when she has kids to raise. I won't lie. She's been a total bitch. I don't think I will ever forgive her for the shitty things she's done. But, I'm better than what she thinks I am. I am not a cruekl person. I won't let guilt fill her up until she can hold on any longer.
