Flora's POV.
"Correct. You may sit down, Ruby." Says Mr. Phillips.
God help me not to fall asleep on this desk. If I hear one more word from the professor I think I'm gonna have to give in.
"Now..." He says something and I completely stop listening. I lay my head down on my desk as he continues blabbering words that don't even sound like English to me anymore. I just want to get out of here.
"Florence!" My head snaps toward Mr. Phillips. "Do you have the answer?"
No.
"Yes." Oh my mouth can't shut itself for a second.
"Good. What's the answer?"
What's the answer? I don't know. I panic. I look at Diana, but she only gives me a reassuring smile.
Thanks for the help, Diana.
"George Washington." I say out loud and the room erupts into laughter. I guess that's not the right answer.
"This is maths, Florence." Says Mr. Phillips giving me a stern look. The others keep laughing. "Now stop with the jokes. Tell me the real answer."
He looks at me with his filthy face and all I want to do is rip it off his head. I don't know the answer to his damn question and he knows that. But he just wants to humiliate me in front of the whole class just like he did the first time. I look over at Gilbert and he's looking away, but the front of his chalkboard is facing towards me.
'6750'
That is what is written on his board.
"6750" I say. The professor looks at me astonished and that's because he knew that I didn't know the answer. He must be asking himself how in heavens I got the answer.
"Correct."
***
"Thank you." I tell Gilbert as we eat our lunch outside together.
"For?"
"Saving me from getting scolded by the professor."
He chuckles as he shoves a piece of bread in his mouth. "No problem."
"I was tired." I confess. And indeed I was. I still am.
"I don't blame you. I would've been tired too if I was you. God, I wouldn't be able to walk even."
My mind rushes to late last night. Gilbert and I in bed, my hands above my head, our bodies pressed together and our lips savouring each other.
Oh, AND his dick thrusting into me non-stop.
"What makes you think I'm not having difficulties walking?" I raise my eyebrows at him. He only smirks looking down and nods his head, smiling to himself.
"Aye, get yourself over here!" Moody yells over to Gilbert.
He sighs. "I'll be back." He stands up and starts walking away.
I hear footsteps behind me.
"Yes, how can I help you?" I ask. I don't need to turn around to know that the girls are behind me. Probably Jane, Ruby and Josie Pye, and I know why they're here. Ruby has told them about the incident that occurred in front of the entrance earlier today.
"How could you have done that?!" Josie Pye's voice yells over all of us. "You know that Ruby has dibs and that she likes hi-"
"I'm gonna stop you right there." I stand up and look her in the eyes. "I am going to speak in theories because reality doesn't seem to be quite clicking inside that head of yours..." I come closer to her.
"I'm not done yet-" She starts only to be interrupted again.
"Neither am I, so hush before it gets physical." My hand lifts up in front of her face, making her mouth sew itself shut. "1: If Gilbert liked Ruby back, than it would've happened between Ruby and him a long time ago. 2: Ruby, if you like him so much than you should make a move and not just stand there and wait for another strumpet to do it for you. You can't prevent him from being happy with someone else just because you have 'dibs'. And 3: Don't say you have dibs on him. He's not an object."
Put them in their place.
That's what my mom would've told me.
"But..." I look at Ruby. "I'll step aside."
The girls look at each other before turning their attention back on me.
"What?" Asks Ruby.
"I'll step aside. You lot get mad at me for the things I do, but now, Ruby, you have a chance to finally get with the boy that you like so much and I'm not gonna stop you. Go for it. And if it doesn't work out, then leave me alone because you got your answer. Just because it didn't work out for you doesn't mean it can't work out for someone else."
Now, don't think I'm dumb. I'm not.
I am.
The only reason why I gave Ruby the honour to go talk to Gilbert is because I knew she wouldn't. She has liked for a long time, but only stood by, watching time pass and not doing anything about it. She isn't going to start now.
She looks at me and I can tell that she's startled. She looks behind her, over at Gilbert and then back at me.
"Go on." I tell her. I really am not gonna stop her. If she really wanted this then she would go and try her hardest to be noticed. But if she's not gonna do anything and only yell at every female that walks by and say that she has dibs, that's not going to get her anywhere.
She runs away crying.
"Now, look at what you did, you nasty orphan." Josie harshly nudges me with her shoulder as she walks by, going after Ruby. Jane just follows them like a lost bitch.
I'm done being dragged by these girls.
