"Happy birthday to you," Jo sang as she filmed on her phone, watching Taylor blow out the candles on the cake with red frosting across it.
They'd declared the day pyjama day, Taylor wore a pink onesie and her hair up and Jo in some comfy plaid bottoms and t-shirt. They hadn't done too much, mostly staying in and watching Taylor's favourite films with her favourite snacks.
The brunette had one last birthday surprise planned for her girlfriend, who had just turned twenty-seven years old. Andrea and Scott had both called, along with various friends and family members Jo had yet to meet. Taylor wasn't ready to do that yet, but she had said it would be soon enough.
"Baby, can you come into the den for a second?" Jo said softly to Taylor, who was sitting on the couch with her empty plate on her lap and phone held up to her nose.
"In a minute, Jo. I'm trying to read this article," Taylor squinted, not noticing Jo place her hands on her hips.
"First of all, put your contacts in or put your glasses back on. Second of all, stop reading articles about yourself. I'm not reading them, and neither should you. Third, I made you a fort and I'd like you to get your butt over here before I have to come get you," the brunette sighed, impatiently tilting her head back and looking at the ceiling.
"You won't do it," Taylor said surely, although she did appreciate the words Jo had said about her not needing to read things about herself.
"Let me see your phone, babe," Jo walked over, and Taylor trusted her, so she handed it right to the brunette without hesitation. Jo held her finger down and started deleting a bunch of apps, Instagram, Twitter, they all started to disappear off the screen.
"What did you— Jo! You deleted like half my phone!" The older woman exclaimed, huffing in frustration.
Jo nodded, "Yes, because it is your birthday and you are being so stubborn about those fucking articles that I know are hurting you inside. Plus, I also know Tree has all your passwords anyways. I don't care if you re-download them tomorrow, I prefer you didn't for a while because you're driving yourself insane, but for tonight we're turning our phones off and we're gonna spend the night in this fort I've spent the last hour making because one night you got drunk and asked me to make you a fort for your birthday."
"I asked you for a fort?" Taylor inquired, slightly cocking her head in confusion.
"It was weird, maybe it was in my dream? I don't know, but you have one now."
Taylor smiled weakly, "Thank you for doing that."
"It's not hard to find where you hid all the blankets."
"No," Taylor laughed quietly, "For deleting those. I've been thinking about doing it for a while and just couldn't do it myself. And for the fort, it's cute."
"You're welcome," Jo took her hand and pulled Taylor up, pecking her lips, "Have I ever told you how attractive your ass looks in that?"
"Stop," Taylor fake gagged, laughing a little as she pressed her palm to Jo's shoulder gently, "Hey?"
"Hmm?" Jo hummed, eyes focused on Taylor's blue orbs, she considered them the most beautiful thing she'd ever been lucky enough to see.
"I'm in love with you," Taylor told her, just above a whisper. Jo smiled and looked at her for a split second, caught up in the moment.
"I'm in love with you, every little bit," the younger half of the couple took her thumb and traced along a Taylor's cheek. Taylor slowly leaned in for a kiss, almost like in those cheesy Christmas movies where they kiss under the mistletoe at the end.
