Josephine pulled the white turtleneck she was wearing under her denim jacket down ever so slightly as it began to feel like it was suffocating her. They were sitting at the coast, watching the waves from the picnic table that was up the slope from the water, the pier not as busy as they'd expected it to be for summer time.
They'd settled into their hotel, a country house converted into a smaller scale hotel that donned ivy on the walls and a marvellous breakfast served right to their room. They hadn't explored the first day they were there, both jet lagged and pursing other interests from their bed.
There was a cool breeze coming off the ocean, one that reminded Jo of their time spent in Rhode Island, watching the water roll in from the roof of the house they never got to quite enough anymore.
"I'm getting hungry," Taylor turned to look at her wife as she spoke, not loud enough to draw the attention of the family sharing a picnic table about thirty feet from them.
"You want to go back to the hotel or find a restaurant?" Jo questioned. She removed the arm she had around Taylor's shoulders and rested it on her own lap, assuming they were going to stand up in a moment or two.
"Let's go out somewhere," Taylor picked up Jo's arm and glanced at the watch, not interested in pulling her phone from her jacket pocket, "Did you remember to check on your sister?"
"I'll call her tonight, it was too early when we left. She was still asleep."
"Okay," Taylor reached for Josephine's hand and laced their fingers together, standing up and gently encouraging the singer to move with her, tugging lightly.
"Let's walk down to the water first, I want to dip my toes in the ocean," Jo suggested. She wiggled her toes in her sandals instinctively as if they were already stuck in the mud where the water washed up on the sand.
Taylor kept her hand in Jo's as they walked the few minutes down and stood on the edge of the walkway. The brunette escaped her grasp to walk into the water, Taylor admiring the little pebbles wedged into the sand.
"It's pretty cold," Jo revealed, splashing the water with her toes.
Taylor had bent down to pick up one of the small rocks, noticing how it sparkled against the sun like a diamond. It was actually a mellow pink colour, held inside her hand as she pulled her phone out and snapped a picture of Jo smiling down at the water.
"This is day two of our honeymoon in Wicklow, Ireland. My wife is splashing around like a toddler, and I am going to start a rock collection," Taylor held the pebble between her index finger and thumb, putting it in the frame of the short video she was record next to Jo.
The brunette turned around and thought Taylor was offering her the stone, walking forward and taking it with a thank you. She slipped it into her pocket after admiring how pretty it was.
Taylor ended the recording and put her phone away again, waiting for Jo to carefully wash the mucky sand off her toes before they began to walk hand in hand towards the town again. Jo pulled up a list of the top restaurants within the little area but nothing sounded too appealing, deciding they could walk for a few minutes and see what they stumbled upon.
"I miss touring," Jo admitted out of the blue which surprised Taylor, actually earning a chuckle from the other singer.
"You were on a strict therapy regiment last time you went on tour," Taylor reminded the brunette.
"Yeah, thank god for that but I still miss it. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's like very awful on my brain sometimes but I love playing the music I made. I just think it's been too long."
