Poppy

We all ate waffles together and then I opened some presents with Bailey and Elijah, receiving some new clothes, books and art supplies. Grandma and grandad even got me some new shoes.

I felt very lucky and overwhelmed.

"Poppy, who are you taking on your birthday meal?" Cameron asked.

"No one,"

"Oh,"

"I love everyone the same, and I want some time alone with mum and dad,"

"Okay,"

"Am I bad?"

"I don't know,"

"Bailey, am I bad?"

"No,"

"You're not bad," Elijah said, gently squeezing my shoulder, "It's your birthday and we can all eat pizza together later anyway,"

"Thank you. I am getting really over whelmed,"

"Poppy," Calum called, coming in from the garden, "I have a present for you,"

He held up a wrapped gift and waved it a little, grinning as he handed it to me. Carefully, I ripped it open, pulling out a video game.

My first one.

Most of my gifts had been what was considered 'girly' and I loved them, but it was nice to have a gift like this.

"There's nothing scary, I have it too. We can play together,"

"Thank you," I said, reaching out to hug him, "Thank you,"

"You're very welcome,"

"I will play this with you lots,"

"I will enjoy that!"

I hugged him again and he rubbed my back, placing a small kiss on my cheek. I didn't like it much when people kissed my face but I wasn't sure how to say that because I knew affection was meant to be good. It was only okay if mum or dad kissed my head.

Nathan came and looked at it, then Elijah took it to our bedroom and Calum took his place on the sofa.

"I heard you have some new friends huh?"

"Yeah, they got me this necklace. Can I be honest?"

"Yeah,"

"I told Ashton everything already and I am getting very stressed, so I don't want to speak loads right now,"

"That's okay darling, is there anything I can do?"

"I want dad," I said, tearing up, "I am grateful for my gift but I want my dad,"

"I will go and find him, don't you worry,"

He left, but came back with dad very shortly after, sitting on the other sofa instead.

When dad sat beside me I curled into his side and hid into his shirt, sighing.

"Am I bad for not bringing someone to my birthday meal?"

"No. It's up to you,"

"Okay. I want subway with you and mum only,"

"Then we can do that. I see you opened all your other presents,"

"Thank you,"

"You look really tired darling, would you like a nap?"

"Yeah,"

"Come on then,"

I followed him to my room and he tucked me in, brushing the baby hairs from my face.
