Michael
"No! No! No!"
"Poppy,"
"No,"
It was Tuesday evening, and unlike yesterday when everyone was very happy because Ashton was round, today, everyone seemed to be miserable. It plagued the house.
Home made pizza and a film managed to cheer most people up, but Poppy wasn't budging, and I couldn't blame her, but nor could I help.
"I don't want surgery,"
"It will be okay, it's so normal to be nervous,"
"You have to stay the whole time," she sobbed, "Until I sleep,"
"I will. I love you so much, I wouldn't let anything happen to you,"
"It's gonna hurt,"
"Yeah, when you wake up you might feel some discomfort for a few days, but they have good medicine. Dr George is going to keep you there for a long enough time to give you plenty of medicine,"
"Okay,"
"This is a really big thing, it's okay to feel scared. In fact, almost everyone gets scared!"
"Have you seen anyone die this week?"
"Nope,"
"Last week,"
"Nope,"
"Okay,"
"Your surgery is on your legs, Poppy, and we know you don't react to anaesthetic or the medication after. You are very healthy, so this surgery is very safe,"
She nodded and dried her eyes, hugging me.
"Sorry,"
"It's all okay. Would you like some more food before you sleep? You can't have breakfast,"
"May I have some cereal?"
"You can have whatever you'd like,"
"Cereal please,"
"Come to the table then, we can say goodnight to everyone going to sleep,"
She followed me out, then I made her some cereal and said goodnight to everyone. Once they'd scattered away, Jasper offering to get Lauren ready for bed, Crystal came and sat with us.
"Would you like me to braid your hair tomorrow morning?"
"Yes please,"
"Okie dokie. I will be up and early,"
"Mhm,"
"I will visit you after work, I have packed your hospital bag but you can add anything you want,"
"Okay,"
She gave Poppy a hug and then went upstairs; I stayed until she had finished eating, then she wanted to be alone so I said my own goodnight and set an alarm on my way upstairs.
I got ready for bed and laid beside Crystal, both of us having early mornings, and very quickly fell asleep.
I had set my alarm for 6:30, but Crystal had other ideas, and hers went off at 6. I groaned and covered my face, Crystal tiredly resting in my side.
For a few moments, I laid there, Crystal trying many times to get my ass out of bed, but I eventually got up and found some clothes.
She had very kindly packed me a bag as well, so I took it downstairs to the door and quickly grabbed a breakfast bar.
