Poppy

After admitting to Bailey and dad that I had a crush on Alfie, I had ignored his messages all day.

Saying it out loud was weird.

I knew I was making a big deal out of this all, and that I should just tell him- and I was going to.

But I wasn't good with people. I wasn't good at trusting them, and I was worried I didn't have the capacity to care for someone like I saw in the movies.

Lots of things confused me, and I was always the last one to understand things.

But my feelings about Alfie were becoming crystal clear.

The other day at our sleepover we had originally slept at opposite ends of the sofa. Then, I had a nightmare, and crawled across to him, hiding in his side which was when he hugged me. 

He was so kind.

This would be a leap of faith, but I had taken so many in the last four months that I had no excuse not to take another.

"Poppy, are you coming to the pool?" Cameron asked, "Please?"

"Not right now,"

"Fine. I love you Poppy,"

"Cameron, come and play!"

He ran away, so I laid on my front and facetimed Alfie, twisting my hair round my finger as I waited.

He answered with a grin and sat down, leaning on the side of the sofa.

"Hey you,"

"Hey,"

"Anything up? Or did you just wanna call. Oh, we could play on the xbox? We haven't spoken all day!"

"Alfie,"

"Yeah?"

"I have something to say,"

"Okay,"

"I don't know if there's a proper way to say this,"

"Say what?"

"I have a crush on you,"

He sat up straight and blushed, covering his smiled with his hand, pretending to scratch his face.

"You do?"

"Yes. Sorry if that is silly or makes you uncomfortable,"

"No, no... I really like you too,"

"Really? You aren't just saying that,"

"I literally took you out for lunch, then we cuddled all afternoon, then we cuddled as we slept. Is that not a big enough hint?"

"No,"

"Huh. Well I have a crush on you too," he grinned, poking his tongue out, "Wanna come over?"

"I have to go shopping later but I can ask. Would you like to come to my house?"

"I don't mind, we can do wherever;"

There was a knock on the door and I called them in, dad poking his head round. His hair was wet and he was just in swimming trunks.

"I wondered who you were talking to. Hey Alfie,"

"Hi,"

"Dad we just told each other we have a crush,"

"Oh right! I just came to say we are going out in about half an hour,"

"Can Alfie come over after?"
