- So, Y/N, what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?
- Actually, with all due respect Professor, but I was hoping to talk to you in private. - you answer, looking suggestively at Viktor. - If it's not the right time, I naturally can come back later.
- Well, if it is not a problem for you, could you please wait outside while me and Viktor finish chatting? I'll call you in when we're done here. - you were completely stunned at what you just heard. Heimerdinger asking YOU, of all people to wait outside. 'Un-fucking-believable'.
- Of course Proffesor - you said with a warm smile, turning your attention towards the crippled boy - I suppose I'll be seeing you around Viktor.
- I'll be looking forward to it - the boy smiled at you sweetly. You turned around and left the office, closing the door behind yourself, a bit too loudly for your liking. You wanted to fucking scream. You wanted to curse this Zaunite boy into oblivion and annihilate him for even thinking he could stand in the same room as you. You wanted to curse his foolish accent, his sharp tongue and hazel eyes. Fuck. That. Kid. He was going to regret breathing in your direction, let alone challenging your position. Your ravaging thoughts got interrupted by the sound of door being opened. 'That was quick'. You turned your attention back to Professors office and watched as Viktor left the room with a slight grin on his face. You never wanted to murder someone so badly.
- The Professor will see you now - the boy said and held the door open for you. You moved beside him swiftly, trying your hardest not to punch him in the face. You stepped inside the office and Viktor closed the door behind you.
- Please sit down Y/N. - said Heimerdinger gesturing at the chair across from him. - I think I know what you want to talk to me about. And I'm not happy about it. - you made your way to the chair and sat down. Hands on your knees, back straight. The posture of a noble lady. - It's about Viktor claiming the position of my assistant isn't it?
- Well partially. I was not aware there were any vacancies in your staff Professor Heimerdinger, let alone a chance to apply.
- That's because there weren't any vacancies to begin with. Viktor has been on my eye for quite a while and he was more than happy to accept a promotion. - you felt your blood boil.
- With all due respect Professor, I've been working very hard, hoping to one day claim this position and I have-
- I know, that you have been working hard Y/N, but so has Viktor. He is smarter than you are giving him credit for... - the yordle paused for a second and frowned - Do you really want to know why I chose him over you, Y/N?
- Yes, Proffesor - your voice cracked just slightly.
- You are truly one of the best students I've ever seen, and believe me child I've lived for over 307 years now. But your success... Everything that you're doing... You're doing it prove to yourself and to everyone else that you are the greatest. Viktor on the other hand... He is doing it for more than just himself. He wants to make a difference that will not only help him, it will help everyone. And that's my final word on this manner - an awkward silence filled the room. The poro jumped on your lap reassuringly and started to cuddle up to your stomach. Looking at him you realised you started clenching your fists again. You slowly unclenched them and this time, you felt pain while doing so. You slowly started stroking the fluffy creature, recieving a sound of happiness and more cuddles. Heimerdinger sighed. - I truly believe you two will find common language. You are both meant for achieving great things, and who knows... - Heimerdinger got up from his chair and walked up to you, reassuringly squeezing your hand - ...you might even find a friend in that poor boy.
- Thank you Professor - you responded while getting up from the chair, gently placing the poro on the ground. - I'm afraid, I should be heading towards my lecture now.
- Oh dear, it's that time already. I suppose I should be heading out as well. - Heimerdinger started gathering his things as you slowly left the room - Oh.. And Y/N - you turned your attention back to the yordle - Please don't be harsh on him. He is a smart, hardworking boy who deserves a chance - you smiled softly in response.
- Of course Professor. Have a nice day - you said as you left the office. Tears started welding up as they were battling their hardest to spill out. But you had never let them. You always won that battle with them. You always won. You headed towards the exit of the main hall. You were definitely not in the mood for more lectures, especially not from Professor Heimerdinger, who just so happened to be your next reader. You wanted to go to your room and study on your own, maybe make a prototype or two, at least that's what you felt good at. Just as you made the choice to screw your stainless reputation and ditch classes, the ground under your feet rumbled and a blue explosion was seen from a distance. It was at the Patron's lab's district. Cogs in your brain stopped as realisation hit you.
It was Jayce's apartment.

~

You were a decently athletic person so running a few blocks was never a problem for you, but this time it was different. This time it was your friend who was in danger and you have never ran so fast in your life. You reached the apartment in about 5 minutes, only to find it surrounded by the enforcers and investigators.
- Shit... - you muttered to yourself as you looked around the place. The balcony was in pieces and there was a giant hole gaping in the middle of the stone wall. A giant crack lead from 4th floor all the way to the bottom of the tenement. You tried to talk the enforcers into letting you in, even pulling the 'please that's my boyfriend inside' card. Sadly nothing worked. You saw them walking out a girl who you later recognised as Caitlyn, the Kirraman's daughter. 'Oh Jayce, of all people you could've endangered, your patron's daughter was the worst possible choice...' you thought to yourself, anxiety trying to get the better of you. 'She seems fine though, everything will be fine', you calmed yourself down. As minutes passed, more and more enforcers showed up to the scene, including the chief, enforcer Grayson. She was the only enforcer, you knew you couldn't talk over to your side. No amount of sweet talk or threats would ever break this woman's nerves of steel. You admired her for that. And that was the moment your heart sunk into your guts. There was a slender figure leaning over his cane, following officer Grayson and closely examining the scene. Viktor.
