You opened the door to your room hastily. Your heart was pounding in your chest, your cheeks flushed. You almost sprinted to the bathroom, turning the tap on and splashing some cold water onto your face. Dirty droplets fell down your cheeks, leaving clean smudges on it. Something about the way that boy touched your cheek struck you. And the things he said at the tower?

You splashed more cold water on yourself, trying to restart your foggy brain.

,,Y/N?"

You heard Amity's voice next to you. You turned abruptly, completely forgetting about her presence. You laughed apologetically, as if it could excuse the awkward situation she found you in.

,,Is everything okay?"

She asked, her face full of concern for you. She eyed you top to bottom and then met her gaze with yours again.

,,What happened to you?"

,,Umm... Me and Viktor had to take the secret entrance because of the reporters gathered outside of the main gate. We didn't really feel like pulling attention towards ourselves."

Amity nodded, hesitant to question you further. But then her eyes rested on your pocket, or more clearly on the thing that was dangling out of it.

,,You've torn your scarf?"

You felt your cheeks heat up, but thanks to the dirt still smeared around on cheeks, she didn't seem to notice that.

,,It's not actually mine... It's Viktor's. I accidentally ripped it while crawling through the hole."

,,What were you doing in Viktor's scarf?"

,,He gave it to me. Because it was cold."

You got annoyed with the personal interrogation, and started taking off your boots and coat. You made your way towards the door where the coat rack stood. You hung your mantle on the small loop and dropped your shoes on the ground with a large thud sound.

,,Now if you'll please excuse me I'd like to shower. Again."

You said as you made your way back to the bathroom, taking off your shirt in the mean time.

,,A letter came for you. Professor Heimerdinger dropped it off earlier."

You stopped midway, your shirt already removed as your face turned pale. Your brain cleared itself instantly of all memories and feelings that could distract you. You knew exactly what it was, but you still asked, your voice shaking.

,,What letter?"

~

Amity nervously stood behind you fiddling with her fingers, trying her best not to look over your shoulder and see what you were reading. You were sitting at your desk in a bra and dirty leather pants. Your breath was shaky, but you weren't crying.

The letter was from your mother, but you knew that even before you opened it.

The first thing that gave it away was the sigil, a quadrangle star in front of the Sun enveloped by a circle. The silvery wax, shun in the light slightly, reflecting small particles on the walls. The paper however, was cheap and the ink she used to write was smudging easily, suggesting a poorly made product.

It was all just for show.
They clearly didn't have the money to afford high quality materials, yet the wax for the sigil, as always, was extravagant and attention grabbing.

You heard your mother's voice in your head as you reread it over and over again.

,,My dearest daughter...
