A/N: Hey guys, I've received comments regarding it not really feeling like a 'x reader' and I suppose I did force a lot of my head canon into this storyline. To my defense it is much easier writing descriptively without using the shortcuts such as H/C or E/C. However feel free to change the details in your head as I'll try my best to not have them affect the story very much. Anyway, thank you all so much for the comments and stars and enjoy the chapter <3

---------------------

Next day, the trial took longer than you anticipated. It was already after the lectures when the Council finally left the Court Room. The news about the verdict spread like wildfire, reaching the entire campus within minutes.

Jayce was being removed from the Academy.

Different rumours circulated around mouths of both students and professors. Some said it was a robbery, others that the young inventor had set it all up in a desperate attempt to clear his name. But there was one thing everyone agreed on. Jayce Talis tried to create magic using technology. The secret was out, and all you could do was pretend to be shocked and play along.
- You okay Y/N? - Amity asked, visibly concerned by your mixed expression.
- Yeah, sorry... Just lot of thoughts in my head - you said while sending your friend a reassuring smile. She nodded her head, clearly sympathising with you. You pat the spot on your bed next to you, and she accepts the invitation gladly. She lays down next to you, the two of you holding eachother in a supportive embrace.
- Why would he do this... - Amity asked quietly while turning her gaze away from you - Was this what he was working on this whole time? That side project of his he wanted to surprise us with? And we would just casually go to his apartment and would get drunk there, like there wasn't a fucking magical bomb in the room with us?
- I don't know Bubbles... - you lied. You knew exactly why he did what he did, but you weren't going to spill his secrets. Not even when his career as an inventor was ruined. Not even to Amity. Grey clouds blocked out the sun as rain drops started hitting your windows. You pulled the heartbroken girl closer to your chest, feeling her body start to shake as she cried into your chest. You slowly stroke her long, dark hair and hummed a simple tune, trying to calm the poor creature down. Your singing together with rain and her sobbing melted together into a tragic, messy cacophony.

The rain had already stopped when Amity's breath finally steadied, signaling that she fell asleep. You carefully lifted yourself from the bed and moved the sleeping girl gently. You changed from your uniform and grabbed the slightly scorched keys. You weren't planning on loosing them this time. You took one last look at Amity calmly sleeping in your bed. The moon was blessing the room with it's soft light, allowing you to easily find your way around all the tinkering equipment scattered on the floor. You closed the door behind yourself as quietly as possible, as you snuck out into the corridor and then out of the building.

You walked quickly, your black coat fluttering behind you. It wasn't cold yet but you didn't know when you'd be back, so you took it just in case. It also made you feel just a little bit safer. It's not that you ever felt unsafe at the campus grounds, but being attractive had it's cost. You had to be aware of your surroundings at all times. You looked up to the sky as you walked. You knew the route by heart so you weren't afraid of bumping into something or missing a turn. The clouds had cleared after the earlier rain. You quickly spotted Venus, shinning brightly above the Hercules and Sagittarius. You slowed down a bit as you watched in awe, the night sky reflecting in your grey eyes as you lost yourself in thoughts.
It wasn't long before you reached your destination. The building was fenced off with a bright yellow sign saying 'SITE UNDER THE INVESTIGATION, ANY UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS PROHIBITED'. You stopped for a second and deftly climbed the metal fence. As you reached the top you grabbed the bottom of your coat, and while minding not to tear it, jumped down on the other side. A cloud of dust and blue particles rose up from under your feet as you landed, your heavy boots leaving deep footprints. You brushed yourself off and made your way inside. Thankfully the stairs were almost intact by the explosion and climbing them pose no problems for you. You stopped in front of the familiar door, which were now laying down before the flats entrance, suggesting they were ripped out during the explosion. You stepped through the threshold carefully, trying your best not to step on any rubble or broken equipment. You made your way into the main room. There, in front of a gigantic hole which used to be a balcony, stood Jayce, a bit too close to the edge in your opinion. His back was facing you and his fists were clenched.
- Hey there big guy... - the boy stepped back abruptly, shock and embarrassment painted on his face. Upon seeing it was just you, he calmed down a bit and ran his hand down his face.
- Holly crap Y/N, you scared the shit out of me... - the boy said as he looked back towards the ledge and the ground below. You slowly made your way towards him, parts of what used to be Jayce's inventions crunching under your feet. You stopped next to him and looked at the view spreading from the giant cavity. You sighed and sat down, your legs waving freely in the air. You reached into your bag and took out a pack of cigarettes, offering one to the young inventor. He sat down next to you and took it, sending a thankful look your way. You smiled sadly as you lit it up for him, and then yourself. The two of you smoked in silence as lights in Piltovan apartments slowly went out one by one.
- What are you going to do? - you asked, breaking the silence. Jayce chuckled and took a breath out of his cigarette.
- It's funny, Caitlyn asked me the same thing a couple of hours ago...
- The Kirraman's girl? - the boy nodded with a quiet 'yup' - What were you doing with her anyway?
- I guess I wanted to fix all of this. I hoped that maybe there was a chance to start over - his voice turning sadder and quieter with each word - But they wouldn't even let me in, and Cait probably got into trouble for even speaking with me. - the silence filled the air once again. You both finished your cigarettes and buried them into the apartments dust. This time it was Jayce who broke the quietness.
- I'm probably going to go back to Tallis family business and make hammers... I honestly don't see any other option...
- That sounds really fucking lame... - the boy laughed sadly at your comment.
- It really does...
The two of you just sat there, looking into the calm night and at dreaming Piltovans.
- You will find a way to continue your research. I'm sure of it. - you put your hand around the inventor and patted his upper arm reassuringly - Your dream is to important to give up on. Your discovery would change millions and millions of lives.
- I know, but everyone is too scared to even consider the possibilities it would bring...
- Not everyone... - a familiar voice echoed softly of demolished walls. You and Jayce turned around facing the unexpected guest. You felt your anger build as you quickly recognised the slender figure. It was Viktor. Again.
