The carriege stopped abruptly, making you almost fall off your seat. You frowned your brows and tossed the carter a gold coin. He tipped his hat and eyed you obscenely. You were disgusted by men like him. You turned away from your ride and made your way towards a lonely lodge with a navy roof. You could see your mother's silhouette in front of a big, two winged door. Even though she was over half a head taller than you, she still looked small in front of it, overwhelmed one could even say.
You carefully climbed the steps and faced your mom with a stone expression. She smiled sadly and embraced you gently, as if trying to leave as little signs of the two of you hugging as possible. You raised your arms to her back as well, hugging her back just as awkwardly.
,,Welcome home Y/N... I'm happy you're here."
Your brain knew she was genuine, but the way she said that made it hard for your heart to believe it. She wasn't always like this, cold and distant. You faintly remembered a time when she was your best friend, a tutor and a mother in one. It was when your father still believed he could beget a son.
She was Ionian, so nature and spirits were close subjects to her. From what you've heard, she used to be a scholar and a templar for one of the tribes, until Noxus invaded the island. She ran away from war, together with many others like her, until she reached Piltover. She quickly climbed social ranks with her intellect and charm, until she met your father. Together they've had you, and everything seemed to be perfect for a while.
You were around 11 when everything changed.
Your father's ambitions shifted directions.
He took over your mother's duty of teaching you, introducing rough discipline and wide variety of subjects. You did your best to keep up with his murderous pace, but sometimes it just wasn't possible. He'd forbid you from seeing your mother on other occasions than the meals, blaming her for making you soft. You remembered how you'd cry into your pillow, missing her lectures... Missing her in general. You'd pray onto every falling star that she'd secretly visit you, tell you that she loves you and that everything would be okay. That she'd tuck you into bed and kiss your forehead like she used to. But she never did. She never had the courage to oppose him, and silently watched from the backstage as he brutally carved you into who you were today. She was a coward, unable to protect her own daughter. You resented her for that, swearing that if you'll ever have a child, you'll do better than she did.,,It's good to see you in good health mother."
You said it blankly but honestly, you meant it. Her face looked older, more tired, but still warm and kind. Aside from that, she looked just the same as when you were a child. A slim yet curvy figure, much more curvier than you were right now. Long, snow-white hair that shielded her from any obvious signs of aging. And those piercing blue eyes, that you could swear, once were playful and flirty. Right now they were calm and chilly, but still respectful and kind.
,,Come, we've been waiting for you with dinner..."
She said and lead you to a small hallway, and then into the dining area. It was the exact same way you remembered it. A medium sized room with a chandelier that was never fully lighten. The room was cold, as the fire place would only be used during cold winter nights.
