A/N: Heya everyone. From this chapter on, I'm going to step aside a bit from the story told in Arcane. I really want to share my headcanon of how the Hexgates came to existence and most importantly I need more time for your relationship with Viktor to develop. So the next couple kf chapters are going to play out in between the events of episodes 3 and 4. Before Viktor's health started to fall out. Sooo enjoy the read!
You quietly stepped through the hallway of the dormitory, carrying your leather boots in your hand. You reached into your bag and pulled out the explosion-damaged keys. To your relief they still worked just fine. You quietly stepped into the room, your racing mind already thinking of excuses you'd tell Amity if she was awake. Thankfully for you she wasn't. The girl was still soundly asleep in your bed. She must've really been tired with this whole situation. You planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. The girl shivered a bit and you covered her up with one of the spare blankets, tucking her in. You changed into your night gown and crawled into your friend's bed, since yours was already occupied.
You couldn't sleep. How could you when groundbreaking things were happening literally less than a block away from you. You really wanted the crystals to work. The research the three of you did was correct and highly probable. But if for some reason it went wrong, the consequences it would create would be way too massive. You just couldn't risk all your lifes work for somebody else's dream. You twisted and turned on your bed, unable to relax. If it went wrong the two of them would surely get exiled from Piltover. That is if they didn't get killed in the process. One of those crystals destroyed the entire apartment, and those two lunatics wanted to turn up the pressure even more. The math suggested it should stabilise, but what if...
You layed in bed, eyes wide open for about half an hour, desperately trying to calm your racing mind. And then you heard it. An explosion. The vibrations similar to the one from days before. Amity turned to the other side but didn't wake up. She really was a heavy sleeper. You heard quiet voices on the corridor, doors opening one by one. You got up, trying to act as sleepily as you could even though you wanted to full sprint into the main building. You opened the door only to see familiar faces of other students looking around, confused at the sudden turmoil. The corridor got filled with loud stomping as a crowd of people made it's way down marble stairs. One of the boys looked into your hallway and screamed.
- There's been an explosion at the dean's office! Everyone must evacuate immediately! - panic quickly started spreading in between your colleagues, as they started thrusting towards the exit. You ran back to your room.
- Come on Amity get up! - you shook the confused girl awake - The whole school is getting evacuated, we have to go! - your friend still half asleep got up and allowed you to drag her out of the room while firmly holding her hand. The gravity of the situation seemed to finally hit her as she saw the panicking students. She squeezed your hand tightly and you both started to slowly make your way out of the dormitories, trying your best not to get separated. You got outside, the cold stone hurting your bare feet. The Professors were already there, throughly counting everyone and making lists of the missing students.
- Y/N, what's going on? - asked Amity while looking around the overreacting crowd.
- I don't know... - you lied while looking at Heimerdinger's window. Flickering blue light was lighting up the Academy's landscape. You could see the pieces of shattered glass on the edges, suggesting the window has been broken during the initial blow. Then another explosion erupted from the office. Both students and professors knelt down covering their heads leaving you the only one standing, looking with amazement at the events happening before you. The outburst was different than the one before. It seemed to warp time around itself, bathing the stone walls in a soft, comforting glow. And it remained there, calm and unchanging.
Stabilised.
- They did it... - you murmured to yourself. The crowd slowly got up, joining you. They all stood, admiring the miracle. Small bright particles started to flow out of the broken window, looking like tiny stars. You couldn't take your eyes of it. The sun started to slowly rise above the horizon signaling the begging of a new day. The begging of a new era.
The era of Hextech.
