"I was 17, fresh, beautiful, pure, I had high hopes for my life. Just your classic low value angel, dreaming of that perfect angel to sweep me off my feet. But I was naive, and I was stupid. I had a fight with my parents one night, so I decided to take a walk. I didn't even realize I was downtown until I bumped into a creature with the darkest of red eyes. It took one demon, and one single compliment, for me to ruin my life. I fell in love so easily, I couldn't see the risks. I still remember the vile things my parents said to me, I'll never forget how disappointed they were." Jieun stated, with a sad smile across her face. "I didn't care though, cause I assumed he'd be there for me. I took all my stuff to his apartment, knocked on the door, expected him to comfort me. Yet, he laughed in my face, that's how I found out it was him who told my parents."
Jieun's story was simply devastating, there's nothing worse than being betrayed by someone you love. Chanhee had tears running down his cheeks listening to the girl, she was so young, he wondered how any parent could abandon their child.
"I'm so sorry that happened to you Jieun." Chanhee said, feeling the girl wipe his tears away.
"You don't need to feel sorry for me, I'm alright now. It's just affecting me more tonight, since I saw him." She explained. "I kind of regret not killing him when I had the chance."
Chanhee's eyes widened, she was talking about the stranger that attacked him earlier. That Donghyun guy, no wonder she was so aggressive.
"Aww Chanhee, your marks are starting to show, let me get you something." Jieun ran over to her bag, rustling around for something inside.
Chanhee quickly pulled out his phone, switching on the camera. He could see some marks forming where Donghyun had touched him, he usually found beauty in the marks, but this time they made him want to throw up. It wasn't Younghoon who marked him, there was no love in these marks.
Jieun slammed her bag down frustratedly, brushing her hand through her caramel locks. "I thought I had some stuff to cover them up, one of the girls must have taken it." She sighed.
"Don't worry about it, I have some of my own."
Though, Chanhee didn't think twice about what he said, Jieun very much did. This completely shocked her to the core, Choi Chanhee, son of Choi Jihun, was dating a demon. She had already worked out that the boyfriend Chanhee was referring to, wasn't Sangyeon, since he'd never be caught dead downtown. But it never even crossed her mind that it could be a demon.
"Holy shit, your boyfriends a demon." She blurted out, watching Chanhee turn pale.
"No- I-, wait, he's not." Chanhee stuttered.
"Oh my gosh! He actually is, this is so bad Chanhee, you need to stay away from him." Jieun stated, grabbing onto Chanhee's hands. "Please Chanhee, break up, this will only end one way for you." She pleaded.
Jieun had obviously been hurt by demons, maybe that was why she was being so protective. Though, Chanhee knew the risks, and he knew Younghoon, he would never consider ending the relationship.
"He's a good person, I assure you." Chanhee replied, squeezing Jieun's hands softly.
"No Chanhee that doesn't matter, you're too high value."
There it was again, high value. First Eunji, now Jieun, he still didn't know what it meant. Chanhee pulled his hands away, biting down on his lip. "What do you mean by high value?"
"A high value angel, there's no set definition really."
Chanhee turned to the unfamiliar voice, eyes meeting with a dark red pair. The women walked into the room, taking the spot on the other side of Chanhee.
"Picking up a stray I see Jieun." The woman commented, crossing one leg over the other. "Now what is Choi Chanhee doing in my establishment?"
"You know who I am?" Chanhee questioned, flinching at the sudden sound of laughter.
"Oh everyone knows who you are boy, your face is plastered all over the city." She chuckled.
Chanhee found it hard to wrap his head around, it was weird to think that most people would know who he was. This was the first time he'd really realized it, but he knew that it would only get worse.
Jieun could tell Chanhee was feeling uneasy, she'd only just got him to trust her, and now someone new had shown up. "This is Mama Kim, she runs the house. You don't need to worry about her telling anyone you were here, she believes highly in discretion." She introduced, hoping that it would put Chanhee at ease.
"I do indeed, I'd get no joy in exposing you to you family, it's such a heinous thing. I heard what you were saying, about the demon. And though it's none of my business, I would say that as long as you're careful, you can be with whoever you like." Mama Kim said, making both angels look at one another. "My son is actually dating an angel, all be it a low value one, but they're so happy together."
"Wait, low value? High value? Am I missing something? I thought that was just about your wealth, why do people keep bringing it up when we talk about demon/angel relationships." Chanhee questioned, he was really getting tired of not knowing.
Mama Kim gestured for Jieun to get up, she needed to have a serious talk with Chanhee. The angel hesitantly got up, saying that she'll come find him later, before leaving.
"If you're going to take these risks, you need to know what you're getting yourself into." Mama Kim stated, eerily becoming more serious. "A low value angle risks much less, the most they have to worry about is shame and abandonment. Whilst, a high value angel, they cannot continue their life after being with a demon. If your father found out about you, he would have you killed. He'd rather pretend you never existed, than be disgraced by what you did."
"Killed?" Chanhee choked. "That's insane, angels don't kill, my father wouldn't do that."
Mama Kim patted Chanhee's shoulder, knowing that it was a lot to take in. The angel needed to understand the true dangers he was facing, even if it was a hard pill to swallow. "There's something very important that I need to tell you about, but you'll never see the world the same again. The history of angels and demons, one forged from light, one forged from darkness. The demons lived for evil, and the angels lived for good. Yet, there is much more to the story than you would have been told...
...It all began a long, long time ago."
