Light beamed into the bedroom, engulfing it in sunlight. Feather like blinks, open his heavy eyelids, exposing those frosty blue eyes. The boy cuddles beneath his cozy sheets, heated by the suns rays, longing for just a little longer in this paradise.
"Master Choi, it's time to wake up." A gentle voice floats to his ears.
Stretching both of his frail arms, the boy sits up, sending a nod to his maid. He swings his legs over the side of the bed, slipping his feet into a pair of soft, white slippers. After a long, warm shower, he sits himself by his vanity, drying his hair with his pastel pink cotton towel. He brushed through his, slightly damp, blonde locks, then styled them with his straighteners. He applies some makeup, rosy blush to his pale cheeks, and a pink shade to his plump lips, adding that final touch of perfection.
This was Choi Chanhee, and he had no choice, other than being the most perfect angel. His father was Choi Jihun, the governor of 'Pure Sky', and his mother was Choi Hyeon, the health secretary of 'Pure Sky'. He had a reputation to live up to, everyone expected him to go far in life, even take over his fathers role when he gets older.
He was currently attending the cities most prestigious university, studying politics, which was the reason he was getting ready today. He had an early morning lecture, and he had to be on time. Wearing a white long sleeve top, tucked into his white straight fit jeans, and lilac converse, he threw over a matching lilac jumper to hang on his shoulders. All ready, he grabs his backpack, walking towards the kitchen.
His maid, Eunji, who was a fairy, had prepared him a bowl of oats, alongside fresh fruits. Chanhee always loved Eunji, she was hired when he was 6, and sort of became like a second mum to him. Once he finished his breakfast, he said his goodbyes, taking the elevator to the ground floor. It took a good few minutes to get downstairs using the lift, for he lived at the very top penthouse of the building.
He met with his private driver at the the front entrance, climbing into the large white car. There was a bit of congestion in the city, something not uncommon, but he still got to school with 15 minutes spare. He made his way straight to class, where he met with his best friends.
"Morning Chanhee!" Jacob waved, seeing the boy walk over.
"Morning guys." Chanhee replied. He stood in front of the desk that sat the three boys, since he'd normally sit in the row in front.
"Chanheeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Changmin whined, lifting his head, which was previously laid on the desk. "I have the worst parents! Ow!"
Changmin squealed after being hit by the dark haired boy next to him. He'd been forced to listen to the boys whining for the last 10 minutes, and it still wasn't over. "Always so dramatic."
"You're one to talk Kevin!" Changmin snapped, sending Kevin a death glare.
"Anyway... what's up now?" Chanhee sighed, there was never a boring day with his friends around.
"My parents were meant to give me my halo for my birthday, but they changed their minds. They said I wasn't mature enough, ughhhh this sucks." He moans, slamming his head back on the desk.
"Oh I wonder why." Kevin chuckles.
"Shut it Kevin, you've got your halo. Don't you remember what its like to want one so bad?" Changmin mumbled, his head still against the table.
Jacob pats the boys back, sending him words of encouragement. "Don't stress yourself out, you'll get it when you're ready."
"You've got your halo too Jacob, none of you understand what I'm going through." Changmin hissed.
"Well Chanhee hasn't got his halo yet, you're not the only one." Kevin points out.
It was true, Chanhee was halo-less, but he preferred it this way. There was so much pressure on an angel without a halo, you'd have to be the best version of yourself possible to earn that precious item, Chanhee hated that part. Though he knew exactly when his parents would grace him with a halo, and he'd rather take the pressure than for that day to come.
"You just have to work harder, prove to them that you deserve it." Chanhee stated.
"Mmmm I don't know what more I can do-"
"Maybe stop acting like a brat."
"And maybe stop biting people."
Changmin frowned at his friends suggestions, looking over to Jacob who hadn't chimed in yet.
"I think you're doing great already Changmin, keep being you." Jacob smiled.
"Thanks! Jacob you give the best advice." Changmin rejoiced, pulling Jacob in for a hug, making sure to shoot glares at Kevin and Chanhee while doing so.
Shaking his head, Chanhee ignores the boys daggers, soon feeling two hands wrap around his waist, and a head lean onto his shoulder.
"Hey cutie, you look pretty today." The boy says, kissing Chanhee on the cheek.
"I know." Chanhee sasses.
"Sangyeonnnnnnnnnn! I have to worst parents!" Changmin begins his rant again.
"Oh my gosh enough!" Kevin yells, slamming his hands on the table.
Lucky for him, their lecturer arrived, instructing everyone to be silent. The boring class went on for 2 hours, with a 30 minute break, then more lessons followed. When the long day was over, Chanhee said goodbye to his friends, and headed home.
As he approached the door, Chanhee felt his stomach churn. He knew what time it was, family dinner. Wandering into the formal dinning area, he took a seat next to his mother, and his father sat across from him. He always felt nervous around his parents, they were perfectionists, if he said or did one thing out of line, he wouldn't hear the end of it.
They tucked into a dinner of filet mignon, making pleasant conversation for the majority of dinner. By the time everyone had finished, Chanhee felt a bit more relaxed, planning on having a peaceful night to himself in his room.
"Chanhee, me and your mother need to discuss something with you." His father said, gesturing for his son to stay seated. "There's been some uproar recently, those low life demons denouncing our authority again. The city is in shambles, we need something to bring everyone back together again, or at least distract them for a while. That's why we're moving up your wedding." He continued.
Chanhee was speechless, he didn't know what to say. The plan had always been for him to get married once he finished his degree. He couldn't believe that it might have to happen 2 years early.
"Can't we do anything else?" Chanhee asked, his eyes had started to well up.
"No, in a few weeks you'll be married to Sangyeon." Mr Choi announced.
Chocking down the lump in his throat, Chanhee begged his father. "I'm not ready, can we please stick to the plan?"
"You've been engaged since you were born, it was going to happen eventually. Two years early is no big deal."
Chanhee's mum stroked his blonde locks, and wiped the tears that trickled down her sons face. "I thought you loved Sangyeon, this shouldn't be a sad occasion. Plus you'll get your halo, isn't that exciting?"
His mother was trying to cheer him up, but it just wasn't working. He didn't want to get married, he didn't want his halo, he didn't want this life.
"I'm talking to the official government wedding planner tomorrow to start making arrangements. Now off you go, get some rest."
Chanhee didn't have to be told twice, he composed himself, walking out of the room. He wasn't allowed to run in the house, but as soon as he got out the dinning room, he sprinted down the hall. Collapsing in his bed, Chanhee burst into tears, he pushed his head into his sheets, to muffle the sound of his weeping.
He wished he had a say in his life, all he wanted was a chance to be his own person.
