CHAPTER SIX
DEVOUR HIMAUGUSTINE FOUND BUNNY EASILY ENOUGH. He had ran after him the moment he could, Abraxas had created a distraction with Reinhardt so that he could flee the room. This included both of them asking the most absurd questions as they could. It kept the rest of the table entertained enough for Augustine to leave.
He found Bunny in his room, the first place he had looked. He lied flat on his back, on the floor, a quaffle in his hand, chucking it upwards, and letting it fall back into his hand.
He did it twice before looking up to see Augustine.
"That was . . Fun." Augustine joked before padding across the floor and sat down besides him.
Bunny lifted his head up, cradling the quaffle in his hands, and swallowed. His eyes were bloodshot. "mhm, I guess,"
"Are you okay?" Augustine asked stupidly, he wished he could retract that question the moment it left his mouth.
But Bunny scoffed loudly, a grin stretching across his face, as he wiped his eyes. "of course I am, happens every bloody time I come home,"
Augustine sighed a little in relief, before lying down as well besides him, their shoulders touch and Augustine nudged him.
"I can happily say I know that you can read and write by the way," he said, a half joke, hoping he'd laugh.
He felt Bunny soften, "thanks, that's all I needed – they think I'm stupid," he started, grin now gone as he stared at the ceiling.
Augustine turned to look at him, so Bunny turned his head towards him as well, "I don't think your stupid." He said simply. He knew it wouldn't help him in slightest. But it was the least he could do, even if it were partly a lie.
"Shut up, of course you do." He mumbled, eyes back onto the ceiling. Bunny blinked rapidly and Augustine felt his heart sink. He was going to cry and all Augustine could do was lie there awkwardly.
"Maybe a little bit but isn't everyone a little bit stupid? At least you're kind." He reassured with a half shrug. Trying to be nice had always exhausted him. But he'd do it for Bunny. Surprisingly.
Bunny turned to him again, red eyed and face slightly damp from tears, he sniffed, "that's so sappy August." But a smile tugged at his pouted lips.
"Yeah well," he spoke, staring at the boy besides him, "don't get used to it. I think I'm ill or something," he joked.
"I hope you stay ill forever then," Bunny replied quickly. He rubbed his red eyes softly.
Silence settled over them. Covering them comfortably.
"You need to get clean, you can't live like this." Augustine burst out into the silence, cutting it in half.
Bunny raised a brow, "as if I can do that." He scoffed in disbelief. "And what if I'm no good at Qudditch?"
Augustine stared back at him in disbelief, Bunny was one of the most overconfident people he'd ever met, and here he was doubting himself.
"You're the best Quidditch player I know, not that it's hard, seeing as I know Reinhardt," Bunny laughed softly at his words.
"so don't worry, you're going to be great, even better than you are now," he reassured kindly.
He'd never been one to be kind. Bunny had made him soft. Not that was complaining.
"Thank you," Bunny replied softly, his eyes staring into his, they flit down to his lips for a moment and Augustine felt giddy in delight at what would happen next.
