CHAPTER FOURTEEN.
THE CHAMBER

THEY HAD LEFT IT A TAD BIT LATE OF COURSE. Finding the chamber the day of the ball was probably not their brightest moments.

They had found it by chance, well, actually Bunny had found it by chance. He'd run back to the common room, flustered and pink.

"Guess what I've just found," his grin was manic and wild as always. Bunny sported his usually rosy cheeks, accompanied by his hair a mess, it had grown considerably since being back from Christmas. it started to soften features, making him look less tough.

Augustine looked up from his chess game with Tom.

All morning he'd taken moments out of the game to glance up at Tom, to check the dips and curves of his neck, before looking back down, hoping he'd notice his stares.

But he never did.

"The will to live? Your third snack of the day?" Abraxas muttered from where he lounged on the sofa, eyes still closed shut from his previous nap. A discarded muggle studies book lay across his chest; his essay was due the next morning and Abraxas was nowhere near finished.

Abraxas had said it was simply too inhumane making them write an essay for the day after the celestial ball.

augustine had to remind them that what they were doing tonight wasn't exactly in the list of being humane, and that abraxas would probably be fine if he'd started it the day it was set. that shut him up.

Bunny rolled his eyes, placing his hand on his hip, "First of all, I've had one snack so far thank you very much, second of all, it's the chamber seeing as you're being rude."

Toms shot up from his seat. "Excuse me?"

Apparently, Bunny had found it when he'd gone looking for Myrtle.

"She was crying in the second floor bathrooms, like just crying because she didn't think she was pretty enough to be my date or whatever, and I just like, saw it."

...

Bunny took them directly after that, they followed hurriedly behind each other, with Tom racing ahead with Bunny. He was so quick that Augustine barely saw him run past him.

Once Augustine and the rest of the knights got to the bathrooms, Tom was already hunched over each tap to try and find the snake engraving. From where Augustine was, Tom looked rather monstrous, hanging over the taps, heaving heavily. He'd never seen him so ravenous and wild. He reminded him of Bunny.

Augustine turned to Reinhardt, who looked equally confused as he did. "Leave him to it," Reinhardt muttered bored, flicking his curly hair out of his eyes.

"What else could a big old snake carving mean?" Bunny exclaimed excitedly, his words echoing around the bathroom, "it has to be the chamber!"

Tom had found it fairly quickly, his hand traced the carving before he spoke the words that had been etched along with the snake.

Augustine couldn't understand what he'd said, parseltongue wasn't something Augustine knew unfortunately. He had thought about trying to learn it, ancient languages and texts were always something Augustine had been fond of as a child. But he never got round to it, a part of him thought that if he had learned it, the effect of it would wear off on him, and it would just be any old language after that.

He watched Tom speak so eloquently that Augustine thought he was getting dragged in by his words. Almost enchanting him to step closer.

The whole room came to life once he finished speaking, the sinks moved almost immediately. Augustine staggered back ever so slightly.
