CHAPTER EIGHT
BUNNY AND MYRTLE
SITTING IN A TREE

AUGUSTINE HATED THIS NEW ARRANGEMENT. Hate bubbled up through his body, suffocating and wrapping round his throat like his house animal as he watched the pair. Myrtle sat on Bunny's knee as she giggled over a lewd joke Bunny had said, his big hands held her tightly by her hips. Augustine rolled his eyes before turning to face the window, staring outside at the school grounds to suppress the feeling of utter hatred — he wanted to rip Myrtle's voice box from her throat. He couldn't stand her giggling anymore.

"All for a good cause," he jumped ever so slightly in his seat, startled. He was so focused on his hatred that he hadn't heard Abraxas approach.

"All for a good cause," he echoed back, before crossing his arms and slouching into his seat on the long sofa, spreading his legs so that Abraxas couldnt see that he'd rattled him ever so slightly.

"Don't pout."

"I'm not pouting. That would be childish," Augustine responded sharply, giving Abraxas a glare.

Abraxas rolled his eyes, opening his mouth as if he was about to say something stupid no doubt, but stopped as the common room doors swung open.

Tom stood, hair neat and tidy, which didn't suit his panting. He must've ran. But here he stood, grinning ear to ear. "There's the happy couple!"

Augustine slouched further into the sofa as Tom walked closer to the group.

"Why the long face?" He asked, gazing down at him.

Augustine rolled his eyes in response.

"Now you're here, may I have a word with you? Alone?" Tom added, his eyes drifted towards the door.

"Of course, where shall we go?"

"The forbidden Forrest,"

....

The forbidden Forrest was Augustine's favourite place on the school grounds, the air was crisp and quiet. No one dared to venture out into the dark, but the Knights did. So it was usually vacant through the school year. Perfect to bring Jasper Harkness to his death in such a quiet place.

Perfect for Tom to bring Augustine. He would meet the same fate as Jasper, it was karma, Augustine realised.

"Don't get rid of me!"

Augustine burst out just as they had wandered further enough out of the school grounds where no one would ever find Augustine if Tom had actually planned to kill him.

He'd been thinking about it since Henry Albright entered the picture. A perfect replacement.

"Excuse me?"

"Don't kill me and replace me with Henry Albright, because I know you've been talking to him and I know he's a necromancer too." Augustine explained hurriedly, he hadn't realised how badly he was shaking.

Tom smiled and stopped once they reached a clearing. "I never knew he was a necromancer," he said as if it was news to him, even though it definitely wasn't, and Augustine knew this.

"Shut up of course you did, you're not stupid." Augustine replied angrily. The shaking had died down knowing that Augustine had been right. It was odd, but he burst with pride in the fact that he was right, and that he'd known about Tom's plans before Tom could even tell him.

Tom's smile dropped.

"Maybe if you hadn't turned into such a weak and foolish boy then maybe I wouldn't have to replace you." Tom snapped back, even angrier, causing Augustine to stagger back.

"Do you even remember what you were like when you entered Hogwarts?" He pressed on, his eyes glittering with malice that Augustine only saw in Bunny's rage-filled eyes.

Augustine didn't respond, too shocked in the fact that Tom was speaking like this.

"You were ruthless and hungry, and you didn't let love soften your heart!" Tom yelled, the word love left his lips as if it was poison, Augustine flinched as he spoke it, he'd been infected by the word. It had to stop, Tom had implied.

So this was what it was about. Love. Tom was jealous. Why? Because all that love was going to the wrong person. Augustine was meant to be utterly devoted to Tom and Tom only.

"You murdered a girl so that you could escape that place! Now you're too scared to fight!" He exclaimed stabbing his finger into Augustine's chest for added affect.

"I-I.." Augustine couldn't think of what to say, I'm sorry? Merlins beard that would be embarrassing.

"I'm disappointed in you." Tom said, letting the words hang in the air. Augustine gulped the lump in his throat that had been forming throughout Tom's speech.

"I shouldn't have let love blind me." Augustine finally spoke up.

"It was wrong and selfish of me," he added, stepping forward to Tom.

It was unsettling seeing Tom angry. His stoic persona always made Augustine feel at ease, like he knew everything would fall into place with his plan to rule the wizarding world. But here he was, almost shaking with rage.

Because of Augustine.

He smiled at the thought.

Only he could make Tom act that way.

"Very selfish," Tom uttered, his eyes flitted down to Augustine's own eyes. "when you're meant to be with me, rising above them all, like Gods."

Augustine wouldn't ask who them were, he already knew. Them were those who wouldn't last in Tom's new world. Those who would crumble. Augustine wouldn't be one of them.

They were so close that Augustine could feel Tom's hot breath.

"I won't disappoint you again." He promised, his eyes stayed firmly on Tom's.

Tom nodded, "I know you won't."
