CHAPTER THIRTEEN
AN END OF AN ERA

AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE ETERNITY, AUGUSTINE HAD FINISHED HELPING ABRAXAS STUDY FOR THEIR HEALERS EXAM. He hurried back to the common room without Abraxas, mainly because Abraxas was careful and precise with how he packed away his things, and sometimes Augustine didn't have the patience to wait around.

When he left the library he was greeted by a pair of blue eyes, those that matched the boys he had just helped study.

"Flick," he greeted.

Flick Lovegood stared at him from where she leaned against the opposite wall. Blonde hair fell messily over her face, Augustine noticed knots starting to take shape at the bottom of her tousled curls. He didn't know how long she had been standing there, still statuesque, he would've expected her to be with Theo by now, down a dark hallway where no one would watch them.

"Walk with me?" She asked ungluing herself from the wall.

He nodded, before he started to follow the blonde girl. He'd never hung out with Flick by himself. It unnerved him slightly, he didn't know whether his usual sense of humour (or lack of) would land with Flick, or if they shared any common hatred and likes.

He just knew Flick and Abraxas shared the same blood, that was enough for Augustine to know that Flick was as much as a knight as Augustine.

"Juno's becoming insufferable to be around nowadays," she complained, looping her arm with his as they walked side by side.

"How so?"

"Oh how I can't wait to dance with august!" She cooed feigning girlish with her other hand clutching her chest as she practically draped herself into Augustine.

He chuckled softly, "come off it Flick, she's just excited."

"So?" She stopped dead in her tracks, "she'll take you away from us!"

Augustine stared at her, suddenly seeing the horrified expressed she sported. "Why would she? You're being childish."

Flick blinked at his words, as if she hadn't processed what he'd said.

It was odd that flick had said this, Augustine hadn't thought of the Knights so fiercely keeping him away from anyone else, but why not? He thought, why couldn't he mingle with others?

"I would never leave you," he added softer this time, seeing the way Flick looked made him feel rather awkward.

She perked up slightly, "anyway," he then said, "the ball is tomorrow, after that, you'll never have to hear about her again."

Flick practically jumped back to life, "thank merlin!" She exclaimed before she dragged him down the hallways back to the Slytherin common room.

....

Bunny and Theo were playing a game of gobstones in front of the fireplace once Augustine and Flick arrived. Their heads snapped up, greeting them with grins.

"Hi boys," Flick smiled her infectious smile. Theo pulled himself off of the ground before walking over to where they stood, enveloping Flick in a hug.

"Should just be a hi for me," Theo muttered causing Augustine to pull a face in Bunny's general direction. Bunny pulled the same disgusted face.

He let the pair have their moment as he wandered over to where Bunny sat on the floor.

"Who was winning?" He asked inspecting the gobstones. Trying his best to not look over to where Theo and Flick had each others tongues down their throats.

"Theo, the cheat." Bunny grumbled miserably.

"Are you ready for the ball?" He sat down where Theo originally sat, opposite Bunny.

"Fuck yes, we can finally kill Myrtle—she's been getting on my last nerve."

Augustine snorted, "didn't know you had any nerves left,"

Bunny nodded thoughtfully, "there's maybe one or two in me,"

He knew of Bunny's slight hatred for the Ravenclaw girl. She was a bubbling thing who'd rather cry in the toilets than to attack her bullies.

Bunny did not like this fact. Bunny found that spineless people were the lowest forms of humans - that's what he'd told Augustine anyway.

"At least give her a dance, make her feel like she was actually worthy for a moment." Augustine said thoughtfully. Yes Myrtle was bubbling and weak, but this one last thing would be good for her.

Before she's dead and buried of course.

Bunny sat still for a moment, before clicking his tongue rather loudly, "fine, she'll have the whole princess moment if she so wishes," a roll of his eyes signalled Augustine to get up from his place on the floor and dust himself off.

His good dead for at least a century was done. He concluded.

"I'll see you in the morning then." His tone final. Because tomorrow, everything would be different.
