CHAPTER SEVEN
HUNTING FOR SALZAZAR

"WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE?" Bunny's voice rung out as they trudged around the darkness of the forbidden forest that Saturday night.

"Fuck knows," Theo muttered behind him, rubbing his eyes roughly.

Augustine had brought both of them out to the forbidden forest for one thing and one thing only; to find the chamber of secrets.

"Is it even real? Does Tom even know if it's real? Because if he doesn't I will stab this stick in his eye," Bunny rattled on as he waved a long, bent-looking stick he'd retrieved from the floor, Merlins Beard knows when.

"Bunny stop waving it about, it could be covered in diseases," Augustine scolded giving him a glare before continuing their walk. He heard Bunny groan, and then another sound- he'd smashed it against a nearby tree, repeatedly.

Theo called from behind the other two, "that poor tree! What did it ever do to you?" A giggle through these words made Augustine pull a face, realising something.

"Are you drunk Theo?" Augustine questioned suddenly, he turned around, causing the two to stop in their tracks. Bunny held the stick behind his neck, resting both his arms over the stick, as if he was a muggle baseball player.

"Pfft no, of course not," Theo waved a hand loftily.

Bunny shook his head, trying to hide a teasing smile, "maybe we should head back, Flick will have our heads if Theo drunkenly kills himself out here,"

Augustine stared out in the vast darkness before sighing, "you're right — for a change."

....

Entering the common room, Bunny immediately flung himself at the sofa where Reinhardt was resting.

"Ow!" Yelped out Reinhardt, swatting Bunny, he sat up grumpily. He'd been sleeping all day, apparently ill again.

"Did you find it?" Tom stormed into the common room the moment Augustine and co. came in.

"Nope, nothing out there but trees and shit," Bunny said crossly before slouching into his seat, Reinhardt had to make space so that all of Bunny would fit.

"Splendid." Tom muttered sarcastically before he too fell into the closest seat; the large armchair that almost looked like a throne if you didn't bother to look at it too closely.

Augustine gnawed on his bottom lip, biting until he could taste blood. "Do you not think it's best to source out a muggleborn before we find this chamber?"

"What do you mean?" Tom asked lifting his head to give Augustine a questioning look. He hadn't thought of this, Augustine realised.

Tom was rather impulsive about these sorts of things; sure, he had a plan. Open up the chamber of secrets, kill a muggleborn, create some horcruxes and rule the wizarding world. However, these plans were pretty vague.

Tom thought everything would fall into his lap.

This is why Augustine was taking control. He didn't care for ruling or whatever, all he wanted was to see Tom rule over everyone. The regality of it all suited him well.

"Well," he spoke, rising from where he'd settled by the windowsill, causing the rest of the Knights to suddenly grow silent in favour of listening in.

"we need to make the prey believe we are it's closest friends, so it will be willing to follow us right into the chamber, and there we will kill it. Without struggle." He finished calmly. He'd done this before, they'd better listen, he thought.

It. Calling the victim it would dehumanise the muggleborn for the weakest of the group —Reinhardt, who sat uncomfortably as he listened. Augustine had seen him shift slightly, holding his hands together, and all Augustine could do was make it so that Reinhardt wouldn't worry too much, or feel the uncomfortable guilt rise to the tip of his tongue.

Tom nodded thoughtfully, staying silent for only a moment, "so, does anyone have any ideas on who our victim could be?"

....

Bunny wrote the note in class. Augustine was surprised with his penmanship, it was neat and precise, unlike his usual persona.

It was all Bunnys idea, little Myrtle Warren from fourth year, no one would miss her! It's a great idea! Bunny had exclaimed jovially.

No one had any other better ideas, so Bunny's plan stuck.

He even went up to Myrtle and gave the note himself.

Augustine stood back and watched as Bunny leaned against the wall, talking down to the fourth year. She wasn't so bad looking when she wasn't crying her eyes out, Augustine thought, looking at her.

Dark brown hair, a mousy little face. She was cute.

That's probably why Bunny asked her out. Flowers and all. The boy decided that was the only way they'd be able to gain her trust, if Bunny took one for the team and asked her out.
