CHAPTER FOUR
DEAR BROTHERAUGUSTINE LAWRENCE KNEW THAT SOMETIMES, AVOIDING SOMETHING, WOULDN'T EXACTLY GO AWAY. It would just make it worse. As he sat besides Juno at the lunch, having said to Tom that he was to study with Juno today, he realised it.
Once the letter landed onto the table from an unusual coloured owl, one that he did not recognise.
Tearing open the envelope, he frowned feeling his heartbeat quicken with every blink as he stared at the words.
"What's wrong?" Juno asked, finishing her food quickly.
"It's from my brother," he said quietly, knowing it from the handwriting alone. His brother had always had the better handwriting, he'd been jealous of him for years.
"I didn't know you had a brother," she replied craning her neck to look at the envelope.
He'd been avoiding said brother since he got kicked out of Beauxbatons.
Dearest brother.
You may be surprised that I have wrote to you, seeing as our last conversation didn't end well.
I'm just letting you know, I will be joining Hogwarts in the new year, I can't wait to see you.
Best wishes,
Vincent
p.s if you avoid me I will embarrass you in front of your new friends :)
He stared at the paper with wide eyes. Always one to keep it short and simple.
"What? What does it say?" Juno asked intently.
"My brothers joining Hogwarts." He said in a whisper instantly regretting telling her. he felt like Vincent was a secret he could keep to himself, but now, now he was said aloud, now everyone would see him.
They found out pretty quickly that not just Vincent would join them, that a select group of students from each school around the globe would. A unity between them all after such a hard time at war against each other.
....
"When were you going to tell us you had a brother?" Theo asked once Augustine told them, later that day. They sat around a table in the common room, huddled close to speak about the news.
"I didn't think it was necessary," Augustine replied with a half shrug.
"Of course it's necessary!" Bunny slammed his hand onto the table and Augustine blinked at the sound. He avoided Bunny's eyes as he continued, "is he a freak like you? Or is he actually normal?"
"Normal." Augustine replied stiffly before pushing his chair out and storming up to the dormitory, it was easier than lunging across the table and stabbing Bunny in the eye repeatedly with the small knife that sat in his pocket. That would be saved for a later occasion, one where they were alone.
....
Tom found him a few minutes later curled up on his bed like a cat as he reread Vincent's letter. It had made him sick with how many times he'd reread it. He'd be worse the moment they'd meet face to face once more.
The last time hadn't been so pretty. It was the moment when Vincent saw Augustine covered in Marina's blood. He'd just smiled to him, Vincent had gone pale at the sight.
Augustine felt Tom sink into the bed besides him. He turned his head, "what?"
He furrowed his brows to him, "why haven't you spoke about him?"
Augustine pulled himself up to sit besides Tom, "he wasn't important enough to speak of."
Tom smiled, "no?"
"no. he's. . . not like me." Augustine explained. "he's nice and likes sports and knows how to speak properly, knows how to act properly,"
Augustine had bottled up his emotions and let them ferment and rot, leaving people revolted in what they might find, whereas Vincent let his emotions mature, let them out for people to see. Augustine was rotten, Vincent was ripe.
"but he's not you Augustine, you're special." it was said in almost a whisper, a secret the two of them could keep as they sat side by side, listening to the start of a storm. The rain had started in a rhymical pitter patter, Augustine closed his eyes at the sound.
"but he's all I've ever wanted to be." he suddenly said keeping his eyes closed. It felt wrong of him to say it, now, on the bed besides someone like Tom. Someone who was sure of himself. Someone who was sure of Augustine as well.
He felt something touch his hand, looking down, and opening his eyes, he saw that Tom had grabbed holt of his hand.
"you'll never be like him," Tom spoke with a shake of his head, looking down at their intertwined hands. It was a hard truth to accept. "but he will never be like you, can he raise the dead?"
Augustine shook his head.
"well then, that settles it. you're the better Lawrence."
He scoffed, "yeah, wait until you meet him before saying that."
"when are they coming? what did Dippet say again?"
At dinner, Dippet had told them what most already knew, they would come for a month, integrating them into classes, as well as making sure they knew that Hogwarts was obviously the better school whilst doing so. They might've said they were doing it to unite the schools after the war, but Augustine knew how badly Dippet wanted to show off.
"monday, monday morning." he replied thinking. It was in two days time. Augustine wouldn't sleep a wink until then.
an/ I think nows the time to introduce the second Lawrence kid .... aka Vincent
For starters let's get one thing straight , just imagine him looking sort of like Freddy Carter but not .... fully
Vincent, if u haven't gathered, is pretty much what Augustine would've been like if he weren't ,,,, Augustine
also ,,, fun fact both of them r named after saints ,,,, both last & first names which I think is pretty fun
