Chapter 20: Fire & Desire
West Village, New York
April 7th, 1:20 amYou a real ass woman and I like it
I don't wanna fight it"For the 100th time, can you please explain to me why I am here right now." Maleah spoke in pure annoyance, pacing the ground directly across from Chris who'd basically been ignoring her since damn near dragging her to this building. The two of them on the 10th floor of what was obviously a penthouse due to the fact the elevator brought them directly to the floor with a key.
Nibbling on his bottom lip, Chris glanced up at her briefly before looking back down. "You gon have to stay with me till further notice-."
"I what?!" Maleah yelled, looking at him as though he was crazy, but he was barely paying her any mind as he kept his focus on his laptop screen. Rolling her eyes, she glanced to the side at the small orange that rested in the little fruit bowl. Picking it up, she tossed it at his head in hopes to gain his attention, but he only raised his hand to catch it without a glance in her direction.
"You gon have to be a little quicker than that." He chuckled, his job being to thank for his fast reflexes. Rolling her eyes, Maleah crossed her arms over her chest with a childish pout on her face.
"Is this not the house you share with Stasia? I'm not bout to be roommates with her, are you stupid?" She twisted her face up in disgust, but Chris only glanced up in her direction with a blank look.
"Obviously this is another house that I-."
"How many houses do you own?!" Maleah yelled, since as far as she knew he was just a captain and they didn't make that much money to be owning 3 different homes. She knew the condominium building they both owned a place in was already expensive, and yet here she was standing in a gorgeous penthouse that she could only assume was more than 1 million dollars due to them living in New York. Maleah only being able to guess what his other house looked like.
"This isn't mine- well, it kind of is. My parents used to own it, but once I found work and moved back to Virginia, they moved also but never sold it. So when I found out I would be coming back here for my position, they gave me full ownership of it to have, but I wanted that independent feel so I got my own crib. I don't pay these bills, cause they believe I'm out here trying to get on my feet or some shit. I don't even argue with them cause it's a losing battle." He shrugged, a small yawn escaping past his lips.
Nodding her head slowly, Maleah looked around to drink in how gorgeous the place was. "I would've happily took this if my parents were giving it to me." She muttered, running her fingertips along the beautiful island.
Standing to his feet, Chris kept his eyes on his laptop that had an incognito chain message going on between him, Luca, and Kordell. "Yeah, but I didn't want to come down here and still be depending on my parents at my big ass age. Had the means to buy my own shit so I did." He shrugged nonchalantly, briefly glancing up at Maleah to see that her eyes were already on his with her back leant up against the fridge.
