"Mama!" Maleah heard, her head turning towards the small voice that filled up her room. Poking her bottom lip out at the baby stumbling in, she held her hands out for her son to make his way closer towards her quicker.

Her son. She didn't want to be a mother, never planned on giving birth to any children ever. She felt she just wasn't cut out for it, and for the reality she was living 2 years ago, she didn't have the time nor space to bring another human in. But she did, and she would forever be thankful for the way life worked out, allowing her to find her true peace and purpose in the world through her son. Even if he didn't know it yet, she always made sure to remind him of the impact he held on her life.

Finding out she was pregnant with her son only about 2 years ago was, in the moment, one of the worst moments of her life. She didn't want him, her first thought being to get rid of him because she refused to be "stuck" raising a baby. She didn't have a clue who the father could have been, didn't want her life to have to slow down for a kid, and just didn't feel she was fit to be a mother. But once finding out she was too far along to get the abortion she nearly begged for, she ended up carrying him for the last 4 months of her pregnancy.

Her mind was set on adoption the entire time, not even bothering to buy clothes for the baby because she knew what she wanted to do. She had nobody except her brother, sister, and best friends. Their encouragement only going but so far, because none of them could imagine Maleah with a baby either. All of them wholeheartedly supporting whatever decision she made in terms of not keeping the child.

However, everything switched in the blink of an eye once she laid on that hospital bed pushing him out. She didn't know what she was doing, allowing her mouth to move quicker than her mind once she denied the pre-organized adoption plan. His tiny body curling up into hers being enough to make her step completely out of her comfort zone and choose to keep her baby. Unbeknownst to her that she would be making the best decision of her life, her son being her entire world and more.

"Where's your uncle at baby?" She smiled down at him, placing the shades she was putting on to the side so she could focus her sole attention on her baby. Giving him a gentle kiss on his forehead, she sat down at the foot of her bed while gently placing him on her lap.

"Uncle night night" He spoke softly, his head laying on Maleah's shoulder because it was nearing his bed time. Running her hand along his back, she occasionally patted him softly because she knew he was fighting his sleep and she didn't like when he did that. Knowing it wasn't good for him, nor was it good for her or her brother, who was the one that watched him when she wasn't home or when she was working.

She wasn't ever irresponsible when it came to her son, ensuring that he was always in the best hands and overall safe. She wasn't careless with him either, him always being her main priority no matter what. Yeah she got around, and did her every night, but she was also a mother first. Meaning she never did anything with her son in the house or anywhere around, no matter if he was asleep or not. She found it disrespectful to him, regardless on if he understood what was going on or not.
