[ Anna's POV]
"Is this ths guy you were talking about?" Jack scoffs and looks at Chris, a little piece of bread falling out of his mouth. I scrunch my nose and frown. Gross. I turn around to face Jason again, who quickly looks up. Was he seriously looking at my ass... I really should've put on some normal jeans before I opened the door.
"I was calling to ask if you wanted to hang out... And I wanted to ask if any of you have seen Jes, it's kind of urgent," Jason says and puts his hands in his pockets, "Sooo... You and Chris really moved in together. It's crazy. Aren't you guys like family now?" He chuckles and brushes his hand through his hair. I narrow my eyes, is he seriously doing this?
"Jes? As in Jessica? This is her so called boyfriend?" Jack laughs mockingly and scoffs again, "Are you shitting me?"
"Anna doesn't want to hang out with you. She actually never wants to see you again," Chris says and groans, "And please fuck off. Jessica doesn't want to see you too." He grabs my arm and pulls me softly into his hard chest. "Have a nice day," is the last thing Chris says, before he slams the door in Jason's face.
I push Chris away and turn around, "What the hell? Why are you being so rude? He was just asking something?" Chris rolls his eyes and sighs, "We really need to talk Anna..."
"I can't believe that Jessica has been hooking up with that douchebag," Jack chuckles and swallows the last piece of bread in his mouth. He turns around and jogs up the stairs while yelling Jessica's name, hoping that she won't avoid him anymore. Poor Jack, he's so sweet when it comes to Jessica. Unlike Chris, who has been acting like shit the whole time.
"I'm all ears, sweetheart," I say to him, using his words and walk towards the kitchen to eat the breakfast Ryan made. Jessica told me that Ryan used to be the nerd back in LA. Ryan and some other guys from the gang dropped out of school when they got into the gang and Chris and some other boy named Shawn decided to be a Junior again. Why stay in school when you already have a job that pays pretty well? I have no idea. There's so much stuff I thought I knew about Chris, but now I realize that I was the one who opened up the past month. And he didn't tell me anything about his past.
"I just want to tell you everything. No more secrets starting now," Chris says, walking behind me. I scoff and walk into the room where Ryan and Jessica are eating. Jessica is laughing at something Ryan said and Ryan is stuffing his mouth with bacon. It's nice to see Jessica laugh, when I know that she's hurt, cause her ex boyfriend is here. I would act the same way.
I sit down at the dining table and Ryan shoves a plate, with a pile of food on top, to me while smiling politely.
Chris comes to sit down on the chair next to me and Jessica and sighs, "I think we need to talk this over again. You don't know the things from our point of view, only Jessica's."
Jessica scoffs and chuckles, "Good luck, I'm out of here." She stands up and smiles at Ryan, "Thanks for the breakfast, Ryan," and walks out of the room. She's going to Jack probably.
"I got in the gang last year," Chris starts, while I eat my sandwich, "I just got into a new school. We just moved from Chicago to Los Angeles. At first, I didn't hang out with the other guys. I thought they were criminals and that they had only one intention. And that's to hurt people. God, was I wrong."
"I was quite the nerd back then," Ryan says with his bright British accent and chuckles, before shoving more bacon into his mouth. I grin at him, happy that he's trying to keep the situation light.
"Jes started hanging out with Sammy and then she started dating Jack. I was already in the gang when they started dating, but I never told her. She wasn't and still isn't too fond of the gang. Jessica got hurt by some other gang, as a threat. I swore to myself that I'd stop and quit. But once you're in, you can't get out. The threats became worse and that's when they took our boss. He's a good man and the only intention he has, is to keep LA safe," Chris rambles, trying to say everything he's thinking. It's great that he's telling me about his past, but isn't it a little too late?
"I got sent here by Jack. He thought that it'd be the best if we moved here to Brooklyn. I'm sure that the only thing he wants is to keep Jessica safe, but then we got the message that the other gang wants your granddad's cabin. You're literally our last piece of hope or they will kill Bernardo and everyone involved with him," Chris ends with a sad smile, "You and your grandparents and us."
"I'm sure that my grandpa doesn't even know about the cabin..." I trail off, a little shocked that Chris had told me everything.
"We won't know if we won't ask him. Can you please get in touch with him? Not only for us, but also for you and your family?" Ryan asks sweetly and reaches over to grab my hand, "I promise. You will never hear from us again." He gives my hand a light squeeze and smiles at me. Well, he definitely can act sweet.
I hear Chris suck in a sharp breath and I turn my head to look at him. He glares at Ryan and then stares at our hands, "Can I talk to Anna alone for a sec?" Chris asks with a harsh tone.
Ryan looks surprised up and nods slowly, "Yeah... I will check out your massive backyard then."
When Ryan is out of the kitchen, Chris turns to me and sighs softly, "I can't leave you alone. Not when I know that I like you."
I roll my eyes. Is he really going to try again? "Chris, I know that everything was an act. You don't have to pity me and you don't have to act anymore. I'm an, and I quote, annoying bitch."
Chris brushes his hand through his hair, "Please, please. Just... Give me a chance. I will prove it to you. Can I have the whole summer? If I haven't convinced you by the end of the summer, I'll move back to LA and I'll leave you alone for good."
I look at him. At his pleading eyes, lips slightly in a pout and at the blush on his cheeks. He's too cute to say no to. But I'm still mad at him. Mad that he lied, mad that he didn't told me sooner, mad that he messed with me. But I know that it isn't his fault, he was just doing his job.
"I'll give you one month...," I trail off, shocked that I'm even saying this. I frown and turn my head away. One month won't hurt, right?
"Really?" Chris asks hopeful and smiles a little.
"Yes," I whisper, already scared for the things that will happen, "I hate myself for letting you get to me again." I look at my plate and sigh. I have no self control.
"It's because you like me as much as I like you. This relationship can overcome everything, right?" Chris says softly and he grins, "Thank you babe. And this time, it's gonna be real. No lies, okay? And I'm not really good at relationships. This is my first one actually. So please, don't be mad when I get cranky at you for nothing, it's just my head fucking with me." He leans closer and puts his muscular arms around me. My whole body relaxes and I scold myself for reacting this way.
"Okay," I whisper back and lean into him, while sniffing his cologne. I hope he means it this time. Cause how much I want to, I could never hate him. My stupid self has fallen too deep already.
