[ Anna's POV]
I look from grandpa's surprised face to Chris' shocked face, indicating that he has no clue what granddad's talking about.
"Sir, I think you might be confused," Chris says, his voice laced with confusion.
"Grandpa, this is my boyfriend... You've never met him before," I say softly and step a little closer to him. What if he's hallucinating? I almost call a nurse when granddad speaks up again.
"I know your grandfather," grandpa narrows his eyes at Chris, "You're involved with them, aren't you? That's why you're here. Anna, I'm telling you, he's dangerous." I look at Chris and he puts his hands up, "I don't know either. I'm giving you two a moment here." He turns around and walks out the small room. I look back at grandpa. Is he talking about the gang and the address of the cabin? And how does he know Chris' family?
Grandpa scoffs and looks at me with a scowl on his face, "Stay away from him, Anna."
"Can you please explain this? I'm pretty confused here," I sigh and sit down on the chair again. My head is spinning with this newfound information and it's not even noon yet.
"I'm guessing that you know Chris is involved with some deep and dark... stuff," grandpa raises his eyebrows. I nod to let him know he has to continue.
"I used to go to college with his grandfather... Let's just say, we got involved with crimes and before we knew it, that other group started targeting us."
"That other group?" I question and put a strand of hair behind my ear, shifting in the uncomfortable chair. I need to hear the whole story before I start freaking out, which I do normally.
"Italian mafia," granddad sighs and closes his eyes, making him look older in some way. "They have hated our family for generations, but they stopped paying attention to us when I paid them off. I didn't want that kind of lifestyle for your mom. But my friend, Chris' grandfather, he kept working for those criminals, until he got himself killed." Grandpa opens his eyes and looks me in the eye, "Chris wants the money in the cabin, doesn't he? He wants to pay them off too. That cabin belonged to my grandfather, he was a criminal too."
God, this is so much at one time. So basically, my ancient family was involved with mafia and crimes. Things don't add up. "Does mom know about this?"
"No, I haven't told her and I won't. I paid them lots of money so your mom could have a normal life with us. I didn't want her feeling like she could lose me every time I stepped a foot out of our house."
I frown, for someone who has woken up from a car accident, his mind is clear and he's pretty calm. Or maybe that's because of the painkillers, "I don't know what's in the cabin or what's so special about this cabin. Chris or anyone for that matter, haven't told me anything about their business."
"Are they targeting you?" granddad croaks, his throat dry and his eyes keep closing.
"The Italian group?" I ask, debating with myself if I should tell him, "Well... Yes. They threatened our whole family."
Grandpa opens his eyes slightly and eyes me, "I will tell you the address. But you have to promise me that you will leave Chris. You will not contact him or any of his friends or his family, do you understand?"

[ Chris' POV ]
This is going wrong. I know it is. I fucked up. Grandfather never told me that much about his life before he died, but I should have put the pieces together. My grandfather and Anna's were best friends back in their day and he was the one guy that grandfather kept talking about. I sigh and pace up and down in the waiting room. A nurse looks like she wants to say something, but keep her mouth shut. I should've let Anna walk in there alone. Now he knows that I just want the money and he won't ever give me that damn address.
"Chris?" a small voice behind me says and I jump, turning around. I'm relieved when I see it's Anna and pull her into my arms, "How did it go? What did he say?"
I'm hoping for the best, but I'm expecting the worst. There's no point in looking forward to getting the key to the cabin when I know that Anna's grandfather won't give it to me. We haven't exactly bonded.
"I got the key and the address," Anna says, his voice sounding strangled so I release her. Did I just hear that right? There's no way in hell... I raise my eyebrows and wait for her to say 'just kidding'.
"Really. We just have to travel to Brasil, because he gave the key to a close friend," she says in a voice, which I don't know if she's being sarcastic or not. Her expression-less face isn't an open book either. She's acting so distant and I don't know why.
"Anna, are you okay? Are you kidding now or what?" I ask, not wanting to piss her off.
"No, I'm not kidding and I'm alright," she takes a deep breath and looks up at me, "Just seeing them there kinda scared me." I know that's not the only reason, but I don't want to upset her even more.
"Do you want to stay then? Or go back to the hotel?" I ask and put my arm around her waist. A few nosy nurses turn their head to look at us and I glare at them.
"I just want a coffee," her voice cracks slightly at the end of her sentence and I put my hands on her shoulders, looking in her eyes, trying to find an answer because she isn't giving me one.
"Anna, you can do this. You're strong," I try to search for a good motivation speech but my mind draws blank. Great, I was always shit at cheering people up.
She sniffs and rubs her eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Let's just go find a coffee shop."
What the hell did her grandfather say that upset her that much?
