[ Anna's POV ]

"Guys, check the trunk for a jerry can or something," Jessica whines and crosses her arms. I never knew how whiny she can get when something isn't going the way she wants to. 18 years old and she's acting like a small child. Great, just what we need.

Chris didn't check the gasoline-level gage before he went on the highway and the car broke down a few minutes ago, in a small village right outside of Rio. Jack told Chris to stop the car next to a closed supermarket, in case it would open in a few hours.

It's four in the morning and we don't have any food, water or signal. It's like the perfect horror movie, starring a whiny white girl, a girl who's sleepy and three guys who think they know everything about surviving in a foreign country while there's a storm.

"No, you go check the trunk. It's pitch black outside and the wind is crazy," Sammy replies and looks up from his laptop, which he's tapping on continuously. At least we have wifi in this car.

Half an hour after we discovered my almost empty bag, we decided that someone took my notebook. Luckily for us, I've had the address of the person we need to find, saved in my phone. But that means someone else has the address. And also, that someone else can get the key and the money from the cabin.

"Isn't this trip going great?" Jack scoffs and looks at me. More like glares at me. Like all of this is my fault.

"Look, the storm isn't my fault. I didn't leave the notebook in the motel, so that's not my fault. The car breaking down isn't my fault!" I yell at him and throw my hands up in the air.

"Fuck you, really!" Jack flips me off and Chris turns his head to look at him, "Jack, what the fuck? She didn't do anything wrong. Calm down, geez."

"Calm down! Ha! You know how that works, right? You go to a fucking therapist once two weeks, fucking pussy!" Jack yells at Chris and I bite my lip, hoping Chris won't lash out.

"Chris..." I trail off and look at his face, trying to decide if I should touch him or not, but he shakes his head and opens the door, stepping out. The hard wind slams the door shut.

"You really need to calm down. Yelling won't help," Jessica says and lets herself fall back on the seat, looking irritated. Sammy rolls his eyes at her and chuckles, "I'm going to see if Chris is destroying something."

"No, no, no, I'll go. I ruined this trip after all," I shrug and ignore Jack's guilty expression, while Jessica starts to complain again, "I'm hungry."

I slam the door shut behind me and shiver. The storm made the temperature drop from 100 degrees to 59 degrees. Not a good time for me to be wearing a short, black jumpsuit. Even though it's incredibly cute, it's not worth getting a cold from it.

"Hey, do you need my jacket?" a voice says over the storm. I jump a little and look around, spotting Chris leaning against a tree, a few feet away from me.

I nod and cuddle into his arms as he drapes his leather jacket around me. He puts his arms around my middle and snuggles his face into my hair, while rubbing my back. He leans against the tree and we stand like that for a few minutes, just enjoying the raindrops and the thunder. Some might say it's crazy to stand under a tree while it's storming, but it's actually quite relaxing.

"Are you okay?" I mumble against his neck and tilt my head a little, looking up at him. He sighs and tightens his arms around me, "I don't need Jack aggravating me. I was about to beat him up, but then I remembered why I had to go to those anger-management classes in the first place."

"You know, I love you for that. You changed your whole behaviour for me," I give his jaw a soft kiss, before I can comprehend what I just said. "Uhhm I- I mean... Sorry, like I was just-I," I stutter, my cheeks turning a warm, deep, red color, a contrast to my cold, exposed legs.

We never talked about 'love', so I don't know how he feels about it. Jason continuously told me how he loved me and I said it back, but was it really love? Or was it just pride, since the hottest guy in school wanted to go out with me?
But Chris is not Jason. He probably doesn't want to hear the words right now.

Chris starts to laugh at my awkwardness and plays with my hair, "I know what you meant. You feel uncomfortable saying those words and you don't wanna say it yet. It's okay, babe. Don't feel like you have to apologise." He plant a soft kiss on my forehead and I rest my face against his neck again, my fingers trailing on his chest. I never would've guessed I would meet such an understanding person like him. His attitude and behaviour have changed dramatically since Jessica told me about his criminal, past life and I'm praying he keeps it like this for the rest of our time in Brazil.

"I just... It doesn't feel right saying it," the words roll out of my mouth again and I sigh, "No, not like that. I just feel like, once I say it out loud, it's there in the open. And I'm honestly a little scared for that. I don't like things I can't predict."

"Well, you were a very closed person when I first met you, so you've come a far way. You were this nerdy, boring girl with two annoying friends. It was fucking hard, trying to figure you out," Chris laughs and stands up straight, holding my hand, "Let's get back in the car, okay?"

"Okay, just ignore Jack if he's being rude like he usually is," I laugh, happy there's no tension anymore and turn around, walking towards the black van.

"What is that?" Chris says and squints his eyes as we near the car, his eyes are set on two, big jerrycans standing beside the car, "Did they find gasoline?"

"I didn't think they would get out the car actually..." I trail off, inspecting the jerry cans. Chris jogs over to the other side of the car.

"The doors are locked?" Chris yell. What the hell? They must have locked them from inside, but they wouldn't be that childish, would they? The rain has now picked up its speed, the raindrops hit my bare legs and I shiver, jumping up and down, hoping to warm my legs up.

"I'm calling them," Chris screams and groans.

"I can't open-," I get cut off while I try to open the door. A strong arm curls around my waist and someone puts their big hand over my mouth, preventing me from screaming. It can't be Chris, cause he's still on the other side of the car, trying to call Sammy.

"Chris!" I try to yell, but my screams get muffled by the hand. From the size of the arms and the hand, I would say it's a buff guy.

I kick the person's leg and try to wiggle myself out of his grip, but he drags me away from the car. "Keep quiet and nothing bad happens to your boyfriend," a deep voice whispers in my ear and the next thing I know, a beanie gets pulled over my head and someone handcuffes me.

"Everything's set. Bring the boy to the place!" the guy holding me screams over the storm.
