[ Anna's POV ]

I don't know how much time went by, but I'm growing more impatient by the second. The sun has already risen and the wind has died down, the branches no longer ticking against the small window.

Every time I see the tree, my mind wanders to the man we killed. I tried to use the time to process all of this, but I still don't know how to tie the loose ends together. Chris is a criminal, yes and he's taking responsibility for what he did and wants to break off all the ties he has to that life. Their gang needs money from grandpa's cabin, which is in the middle of nowhere. Grandpa used to live a sketchy life too and so did his grandfather, but he paid people off so they wouldn't come after his and his family. And what a coincidence that my grandpa and Chris' used to live this lifestyle together.

Suddenly, a sound from behind the huge, black door catches my attention and not even a second later, Antonio comes barging through the door with a four big guys walking behind him, dragging Sammy, Jack, Chris and Jessica, whom are all handcuffed, by their arms.

"Ha, Anna, here we are! The moment you've been waiting for!" Antonio throws his arms up and snaps his finger. "Thank you guys, you can let them go."

"Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?" Chris asks as soon as the guys leave the room. His lip is split down in the middle and he has a deep cut in his cheek.

"I'm okay, but you don't seem to be," I frown and inspect the rest. Sammy looks untouched and so does Jessica, but Jack has blood all over the right half of his face.

"So, the guys and I have come to a conclusion," Antonio grins and brushes a hand through his hair, "you're going to get that money for me and you're done. Boom, bam, out of this life. Fucking pussies, you were never a threat to me anyway."

"Fucking hell, we were already about to do that, but I don't think that's what on our minds now," Jack spits blood on the floor and Jessica grimaces.

"You do what I say or you'll never see your precious boss again. Isn't that why you came here in the first place?" Antonio grins and crosses his arms, staring at Jack.

He looks satisfied when Jack shuts his mouth shut, "Great, now that I have your attention. I know you know where that cabin is, so I'm giving you all one week. If you don't contact me after a week, you're dead," he turns to look at me, "and so will your beloved ones be."

"We don't have a car, how are we supposed to go anywhere?" Sammy asks and frowns.
"I'm giving you my car, but you know how it goes," Antonio walks over to Chris and puts his gun under Chris' chin, "if you fuck up, I'm no longer nice."

---

"I fucking hate this," Jessica complains as we step in the car Antonio gave us. He threatened us one last time, before Sammy took off, driving onto the highway. We were only an hour away from Rio, so we drove back to the city and got something for Chris' and Jack's faces.

"Calm down, Jes," Chris rolls his eyes and slams the car door shut, putting his hand on my knee, "it's easy. We find the address of Anna's grandfather's friend and we find the cabin and we're done. For once and always."

We just came back from McDonald's, cause we hadn't eaten for hours and I had to charge my phone to find the address of the key holder. We also bought and put on new clothes, since our bags are still with Antonio.

"It's... ten minutes away from here?" Sammy frowns and turns his head to look at us.

"That must be wrong, a criminal wouldn't live in the middle of a busy city," I say and bite my lip.

"That's what a smart criminal would do," Jack responses and takes off his jacket.

"Here we go then," Sammy turns the GPS on and we drive through the city, anticipating for the big moment.

---

"52... 54, we're here," Jessica pushes her face against the window and sighs.

After a twenty minutes ride, we hit traffic, Sammy pulls up at an old house.

"Anna and I are going in, just stay in the car," Chris says and opens the door, "you can come in after half an hour."

"Aye, I can come in too?" Jack raises his eyebrows, but Jessica turns her head and gasps, "No, we're staying here."

I roll my eyes, "My grandpa told this person that we would be coming, we're gonna be fine."

"Come on then," Chris pulls me out the car and puts his arm around me, pushing me forward. "You don't have to do anything, just let me do the talking and we'll be fine."

"It's my grandpa's friend, I think I have to do the talking," I sigh and stop in front of the door.

"Don't pull anything on me and no surprises. I know how this can go and we don't know the guy," Chris whispers and rings the doorbell, the sound echoing through the empty street.

Just when I'm about to open my mouth, the door opens, revealing an old man around the age of my grandpa.

"Grandfather?" Chris slowly lets go of my shaking arm and puts his hand on his shoulder. I look at him, but his attention is still of the smiling old man in front of us.
