[ Anna's POV ]
I feel something wet trickling down on the side on my head, immediately followed by a deep, raspy voice with a slight Italian accent, "Finally awake."
I frown and open my eyes, only to be met with two piercing, dark brown ones. The man backs away from me after I jump a little in my seat and feel the ropes around my wrists cut in my skin. What the hell?
My first instinct is to figure out where I am. My eyes wander around the modern space, spotting two buff guys standing on each side of the black door, with a stern expression. The small window on the left wall lets me know it's still dark outside, I've only been out for a few hours then. A small lightbulb dangles from the grey ceiling and apart from the tan guy standing in front of me and the two, I guess, guards, I'm alone. Where is Chris? Are Jessica, Sammy and Jack here too? I look down and see that my ankles are also tied to the chair. I deeply sigh and lean back, looking at the unfamiliar guy, trying to calm myself down.
The guy's wearing a thin, white shirt with his sleeves rolled up, showing off the sleeve of tattoos on his left arm and I spot a few tattoos on his chest. I mentally slap myself, this is not the moment to be checking out the guy who's keeping me hostage. Or whatever's happening.
"Hello, Anna," the unfamiliar person greets me and starts walking around the room, "Welcome to my loft."
I want to scream and yell, my mind going crazy with all theories, but I bite on my tongue, deciding not to say anything. I've watched enough movies to know it's better to shut up and listen. Never would have thought those movie nights with Jane and Tiffany might come in handy. Tiffany. Haven't talked to her in a long time, have I? After she had an argument with Jane, we just cut her off... Pretty harsh of me when you think about it.
'Hello?' the guy snaps his fingers in front of my face and I shake my head, coming back to earth. I really need to stop zoning out, even if it's distracting me from this horrifying place.
"She's alive," he dryly says and gets out of my face, "you're probably wondering, why am I here? What do they want with me?" He tries to imitate me by using a higher pitched voice, but fails miserably. Little does he know my voice is probably deeper than his. Okay, maybe a little exaggerated, but my voice is pretty damn deep for a female.
Focus Anna, focus.
"Our system, no, my system is pretty easy actually. We just exchange questions and answers, how does that sound? You can start. It's like, twenty questions or whatever you Americans call it," the guy bends down to look me in the eyes and I slowly nod, focusing on my breath.
"What am I doing here?" I ask and look around the room to see if there's another exit, besides the huge, black door. Unfortunately, the door is the only exit. The window is another option, but I don't know how tall this building is.
"Simple," the guy shrugs and grabs another chair, placing it in front of me, "you know stuff. Important stuff. You probably already know what I'm talking about. I'm asking all of you so I know nobody will lie. You just happen to be first, baby."
Grandpa's cabin? Is he talking about the money in the cabin? I bite on my cheek and wait for his question. The least he could do is remove the damn rope around my wrists and ankles.
"Now my question," he sits down on the chair, so we're on the same eye level, "what's the address? Old Parker's little house."
Shit. I knew he was talking about the damned cabin. Does grandpa know this person? The guy obviously knows my family since he knows grandpa's grandfather. Does Chris know this guy?
"Why do you need it?" I frown and gulp, trying not to throw up. Not that there's anything in my stomach to throw up. I haven't eaten in a long time and I hear it growling softly. Not the time. Now is not the time for my tummy to be making tiger sounds.
"Ah, so you do know where it is! That's great to hear," the guy's face lits up and he claps his hands, "but this is not how this game works, honey. I ask something, you answer."
"I... I don't know where it is. I'm here to search for it too," I mumble, not looking him in the eyes.
"Don't fucking lie now! We're on the road to being good buddies!" the guy exclaims and points his finger at me.
"I'm not lying! My grandpa gave me the address of the person who has the key to the cabin... I just have to find him or her," the words roll off my tongue so quickly, I'm not sure if I just gave out too much information.
"I'm sure Chris informed you about the Italian mafia. You better not be lying right now, babe," the guy winks and stands up, walking over to a fridge in the corner of the room. Italian mafia? Is this the gang who's keeping Bernardo hostage? My head starts spinning again, my vision getting a little dizzy.
Fuck him, really! This was supposed to be the best summer ever. The summer before I'm heading off to college, the summer where there are no worries. Maybe Jane was right... I'm blinded by love, driven by excitement and I'm definitely not thinking straight. Is this relationship with Chris really worth my and my loved ones safety? What am I getting myself into? Tied to a chair, in the middle of Brazil, with no one to save me, but myself.
"Now, now, don't black out again. You can ask me a question now," the anonymous guy takes a swig of the bottle in his hand, the smirk still present of his face.
"What are you going to do to me? Or to any of my friends? And can you at least untie me?" I ask, not really wanting to know the answer to the first two questions.
"I just need the money, honestly. If you won't stand in my way, there won't be any difficulties. I will keep my hands to myself, I'm not a pedophile. And about your friends, they are getting interrogated by my men right now, I hope they're not being difficult for their own sakes," the guy winks again and leaves the room, the black door shuts with a hard thump.
"Can one of you untie me?" I raise my eyebrows and look from the left guard to the right. The one with the black shirt shakes his head and stifles a laugh, but the right one punches his arm, "Stop it, Benny! Antonio will kill us." He seems pretty serious, cause Benny immediately stops chuckling and looks at me with a pokerface.
"Okay then..." I pout and lean back, the ceiling becoming my view for the next hours.
