[ Anna's POV ]
I walk through the hall, clearly annoyed by the boring classes and the annoying teachers, towards my locke, where I see Chris leaning against my locker, not looking too good. "Shit! What happened to your face?" I shriek as I walk closer. His eye is a mixture of purple, blue, brown and there's dried blood on the cut in his lip. My fingers touch his eye, before he winces. "Sorry, but that hurts. It's nothing, I'm just a little scratched up. But where were you this morning? Did you go back to your parents' place?"
I did leave Chris this morning, but only because he didn't want to get up and I was already running late. I was showering and when I came back, he was fast asleep again, so I didn't wake him. God knows that he gets mad when people wake him up in the morning.
"A little scratched up?" I say loudly enough for some students to turn their heads to look at us. "Who scratched you up? When did this happen? Is that why you didn't go to your classes?" I ignore his last questions and think about Jason, who I saw in PE earlier today. He couldn't play volleyball with us, because he got beaten up by someone... Could that someone be Chris? And why the hell would they be fighting each other in the beginning? Do they even know each other? They probably do, since they both hang out with the same guys. But on the other hand, Chris wouldn't beat up someone for no reason.
"Come on, let's go to the forest. We'll talk there," Chris points at some students, who are staring at us, whispering. "Somewhere where those nosey little fuckers aren't," he says loudly, making some girls gasp and turn their heads away.
"Be nice!" I slap his chest and shake my head. "And no, I can't. I promised my dad that I would be home after lunch. Which is why I'm leaving now." I called dad yesterday, since I've been staying with Chris for almost the whole week and my dad flipped out when I told him where I've been staying at, but it's not like he gave me a choice. I called mom in the weekend, so she already knew and luckily, she covered for me. Mom also acted weird when I told her that I've been staying at Chris' apartment, but that's another story.
"Your dad? You called him? You're going home today?" Chris raises his eyebrows and sighs.
"I don't know if I'm going home, but I should listen to what he has to say," I shrug and open my locker, putting all the books in my bag. Chris crosses his arms, looking annoyed. "Couldn't you just do that right away when they told you to? Why go home suddenly?"
"What's wrong?" I frown. "Did I do something wrong or what?" Chris looks away and clenches his jaw. "No, it's nothing. I'm sorry." Mooooodswings, I sing in my head. He looks at the floor and shakes his head. "I just had a tense morning, I'm a little stressed. That's all." He pulls me in for a hug, but I don't hug back, instead I push him back by his shoulders, looking in his green eyes. "What happened this morning after I left?"
"Nothing, come on. I'll drive you to your house," Chris changes the subject, before we walk out of school.
My phone starts to ring and I pull it out of my pocket, scanning the ID caller. It's Jane. Shit, I forgot to text or call Jane and Tiffany this week. Normally, we skype almost every night and they come over regularly. Yes, I did see them in classes and in the hallways at school, but I kind of did neglect them.
"Who is it?" Chris looks at my screen in curiousity. "Jane? Aren't you gonna answer that? Just like you ignored her call yesterday, the day before that day and pretty much like the whole week? And you're gonna ignore Tiffany in the classes too?" We walk through the parking lot of our school and I roll my eyes. I didn't get away from my dad, only to get the same nagging questions from my boyfriend again.
"Mind your own business, please," I say through gritted teeth as I answer Jane with a sigh. Dramatic, I know, but I've been feeling off all day. "Yeah? Is something wrong?"
Chris elbows me and mocks me. "Be nice."
I let out a breath as Jane yells through the phone. "You! You're the problem! Hello? So you get a boyfriend and suddenly, we don't exist anymore?" I roll my eyes, not like Jane can see me. "This week has been hectic and this surely has nothing to do with Chris, leave him out of this."
"What's your problem? Why are you ignoring us?" Jane says angrily.
"I'm not ignoring. Like I said two seconds ago, hectic week. I've got a lot of shit going on at home and Chris is just comforting me. Calm down, girl," I say, only provoking Jane even more, while Chris opens the car door for me. I get in and put my schoolbag on my lap.
"Well, if you told me, or Tiffany, that you've got a lot going on, we wouldn't be so worried and angry, now would we?" Jane continues yelling.
"I'm sorry, okay? But I have to go now, I promise I will call you tonight," I say and roll my eyes again. I don't know what's with me today, but I feel like rolling my eyes every chance I get. It probably has something to do with the fact that Mother Nature decided to surprise me this morning.
"You're not going to chemistry class after lunch, are you?" Jane sighs and I can picture her shaking her head.
"Sorry Jane, gotta go," I quickly end the call, not wanting to hear her complaining anymore.
Chris starts the car and turns his head to look in the rearview mirror. I stare at his face, who could've possibly beat him up? It's not like he's the one who gets into a lot of fights.
"I got into a fight at school with the guy my sister is dating," Chris seems to know what's on my mind.
