[ Anna's POV ]
"You do?" I look at Chris. I don't know if he's being sarcastic or what.
"Yeah, I mean," he lets out an awkward cough. "I feel like we're pretty close already. You're nice and pretty, I mean... ehm." He shrugs and bites down on his lip. I chuckle, so this is a foreign subject to him. He thinks I'm pretty? He seems so sure of himself, so it's pretty funny to see him so disorientated.
"Well, you trust me well enough to go get some real food, rather than that stupid stuff they serve in the cafeteria at school," he grins.
"How do you even know where the Target is?" I ask Chris when we pull in the parking lot.
"I went grocery shopping with my mom last week," he sighs and raises his eyebrows for a dramatic effect. "Worst day ever. That woman just kept throwing and throwing things in our cart."
"Does your mom know you're not going to classes on the first day of school?" I ask him.
"Nah, she's too stressed about work to even give me a second glance," he says. "What about your mom though, little truant?"
I ignore the nickname and reply. "Same, she loves her work way too much, but lately she's been acting weird," I trail off, not wanting to go further on that subject.
"Well let's go buy food then," Chris breaks the silence and gets out of the car.
---
Chris keeps looking at me as we walk through the aisles and I try to ignore his glances by asking him tons of questions.
"Chris? I asked if you'd like to get some coffee?" I wave my hand in front of his face when I ask him for the third time.
"Ehm yeah, coffee sounds great," he shakes his head, smiling and takes a look at the food in my hands. "I can help you carry that, sweetheart," he takes the sandwiches from my hands and sighs. Something is definitely on his mind, but I'm not the one to pry. Well, I used to, but I saw that people got really annoyed with that.
"Where are we going after we buy the food?" I ask him, arriving at the drinks selection.
"I know a nice place," he say. "I stumbled onto it when I walked around. It has a beautiful view and I don't think many people know that place exists."
"Care to tell me?" I ask him, my eyes full of curiosity. My mind goes crazy with all the possibilities. The part of Brooklyn we live in is pretty crowded, so I'm excited to see what he has in store.
"Hmm.. nope," Chris smiles. "Which flavor do you want?" He points at the different Starbucks flavors.
"Vanilla is okay," I tell him. Where could he possibly be taking me to?
When we get in the car, I'm more than nervous. I can't wait to see where he's taking me to. You can tell I'm not very good with surprises, especially from guys I don't even know. Stay calm, Anna. I must get out of my boring comfort zone and Chris is definitely helping with that.
"Come on Chris, please tell me where we're going!" I pout. "I already skipped my classes and now you won't even tell me where we're going!"
He laughs at me. "Should I put tape over your mouth?"
Chris takes off and drives for a while. After ten minutes, the road disappears into a smaller, rockier one, I've never seen before. "You sure you're not going to kidnap me?" I ask jokingly.
He chuckles. "Don't worry, babe. You'll love it" Babe? I smile to myself and look at my lap, blushing.
"Enjoying yourself there?" Chris breaks the silence and I look up, spotting the trees behind him. "But we've already arrived , you can step out and see for yourself."
I step out of his Range Rover and look around. We're parked in front of a forest and there's some kind of abandoned building in front of me. Am I supposed to go in there?
"What is this place?"
