[ Chris' POV ]
When my first, boring class finally ends, I stand up and look at Anna. I catch her staring at me and she looks away quickly, while blushing. I got her right where I need her to be. "I'll see you around Anna," I wave and exit the room.
I walk through the hall of this huge school and I walk past my sister Jessica making out with some soccer player next to her locker. Wow, first day of school and she's already hooking up with someone. She was never like this back in LA.
These are the preppiest persons I've ever seen, with their stupid polos and khaki colored pants. Ugh, stupid divorce between my parents. Mom had to move to Brooklyn, while my dad could stay in Los Angeles, drinking beer and staying high. But I know that's not the only reason that we had to move. We lived in LA for about four months, before we had to move again. I scoff at the memories of living in that damned city and walk to my next class.
[ Anna's POV ]
I hear the fourth bell ring, which means we have a lunch break. I walk through the halls, towards the cafeteria. When I'm on my way, I see Chris struggling with his locker. "You need some help?" I ask Chris, overcoming my fear of getting turned down by people, but I just have a great feeling about Chris. He really seems like a nice guy. He turns around and laughs, "Yeah, I'd appreciate that. My locker won't open and you owe me after I drove you home when you were shitfaced."
I blush and pull in my lips. "So it was you who drove me home. Thanks again."
"You're welcome, pretty" Chris smiles.
After I help him open his locker, I decide to start a conversation, since it was really awkward the last time we had an actual conversation. "So you made any friends already?''
He looks at me and shrugs, "Nah, these people are way too perfect, preppy and neat, thanks, but I'd rather be a loner than be friends with these people... Although, some guys on the soccer team seem cool to hang with."
"Oh, so you think I'm perfect, preppy and neat?" I smile at him, teasing him while we walk to the cafeteria.
"No... Yes... Well, I wouldn't say you're preppy," he hesitates and looks at me. "You're different than these people."
I raise my eyebrow, thinking of Jason who always used to say that and reply. "Yeah, I've heard that one before."
Chris looks ahead of us, we already entered the cafeteria. "What do you think about skipping the last few classes with me?"
I look at him, thinking he's joking, but he has a serious expression on his face. I don't really know the guy, should I go with him? And where are we even going to? It's not like he knows Brooklyn well, he just moved here.
"Uhm, I don't know about that one... I'm already failing my bio class and this is our last semester. This isn't a good idea," I say, not really convinced. I actually wouldn't mind getting out of school, cause mom and dad don't really care if I go and the weather is perfect. "Besides, my friends are waiting for me," I point to Tiffany and Jane, who are standing in the line for the gross thing they call food here.
"Hmpf, I'm way more fun than them and any of your classes," he pouts. "Come on sweetheart, let's go." He grabs my hand and we walk through the cafeteria, towards the exit. You know what? Why don't I let go of boring Anna for once and get out my comfort zone. The more I think about it, the more excited I get.
"Tiff, will you tell Jane that I'm not going to class after lunch? And that she doesn't have to wait for me?" I say to Tiffany as we pass her, Jane probably went to search for a free table.
"Wait, Anna! Where are you going to? And who's that guy?" she yells after me, but I don't have the time to turn around and answer, since Chris is still pulling me by my hand.
We walk through the parking lot, nearing a Range Rover. "So this is your car?" I raise my eyebrows while Chris lets go of my hand.
"Are you impressed?" he smiles. "I got it for my birthday this year and if you're wondering, yes I have my license. You don't have to worry about crashing." Chris chuckles and opens the passenger door for me. "You may get in my car, my lady.'"
I giggle and step in the car, mentally slapping myself. I really hate it when girls make that obnoxious sound. It's a high pitched, stupid sound and I never want it to come out of my mouth again. Yes, maybe a little over exaggerated, but I just don't like giggling.
The car looks brand new from the inside. "So when was your birthday then? This car is way too neat for a guy your age," I tease Chris, who's taking place behind the wheel.
"Funny. My birthday was a few days ago, actually. The last day of May," he says, while fastening his seatbelt. "I turned 19."
I don't even know a single thing about him, I think to myself. Why did I even get in his car in the first place? I look at Chris, who's focusing on getting the car from the parking lot with no scratches. I sigh and look out of the window.
"Whatcha thinking about Anna?" Oh shit, now's not the time to overthink things or look nervous.
"How I really like your company, even though I'm really weird and awkward around guys usually," I say with all honesty.
"Are you confessing to liking me already?" Chris grins and looks at me, making me squirm under his gaze.
"No!" I shout, facepalming myself. "Yes, as friends."
"Aw, don't be embarrassed now," he focuses back on the road and pats my knee. "I really like you too. As friends."
