[ Chris' POV ]
"Chris? Hello?" I hear someone talking, but I'm not quite sure who it is. I stare off in the distance and let my thoughts consume my mind.
We're moving in with Anna's dad, who mom just met. How fucked up is that? Jack will fucking flip out when I tell him this idiotic story and the rest of the guys in LA will laugh at me. Like I'm the idiot who has to get through all this shit, just so I can help out my boss. I tried convincing them that my mom wouldn't rat us out if I told her our plan for Anna, but Jack and Ryan got mad. It took me three days of complaining till I could finally Jessica about the whole business, but Jack let that one slip, cause he's a lovesick puppy. I know I have to tell Anna about the men who've been following her, her family's past with the Italian mafia and above all, her family's secret cabin, but I can't. Not yet, at least. I'm not a bad person, I just-
"CHRIS!" Anna snaps her fingers in my face. She stops walking and squeezes my shoulders. Our last period just ended and we're walking to the her locker, where Jane is waiting.
Apparently, they're on speaking terms again. Girls are so weird. They fight, ignore each other, make up rumors about each other and the next day, they're best friends again.
"Yeah, what is it?" I say, a little bewildered. I was so lost in my thoughts, that I didn't even realize that she was talking to me.
"I asked how your biology test went," she lets out a weird noise, which I assume is meant to be something between a scoff and a laugh. "What's on your mind? Still our parents?"
No, she'll probably worry too much and overthink everything. And besides, not telling isn't the same as lying. Wait, why do I even care about her? I quickly shake my head.
"Nah, just thought of something," I answer vaguely. We start walking again and I put an arm around her. "Oh well, say hi to your mom for me! I have to go now, eh... I'll see you tomorrow?" she asks, more than she says, like she's scared all hell will break loose tomorrow. It certainly will.
"Yeah, I'll walk with you to school tomorrow, alright? Don't let your dad get in your head" I give her a swift peck on her cheek and walk out of school, towards my car, pulling my phone out of my pocket to dial Jack.
[ Anna's POV ]
"I didn't mean to sound so clingy when I asked him if I'd see him tomorrow, but I kind of did," I sigh and look at Jane as we walk down the street, towards my house.
"Why'd you ask him if you'd see him tomorrow?" Jane laughs. "You're going to the same school, did you know that?" I roll my eyes. "Yeah, I know, but he's just acting strange." And oh, because he's moving in tomorrow.
Jane continues to laugh and shakes her head. "I can't give you advice on these kinda things. I don't like being committed and you know I love being fuckbuddies with guys way too much."
Jane isn't really the slutty type, at least she doesn't act like one. But technically, she is a slut. She goes to these wild parties, uses her fake ID to get into clubs and practically hooks up with everyone she thinks is hot.
She's like the opposite of Tiffany, who's calm and likes to study. It's a surprise how they manage to be good friends.
"Psfh," I scoff. "You should try a boyfriend, they're way better than those one night stands."
"How'd you know that?" Jane smirks and I open my front door. "You little vestal virgin."
I roll my eyes and chuckle. "It's just the way I was raised, alright. No sex before marriage and that kind of stuff." I open the door and step in. "My dad already hates me, I don't have to make it worse by being eighteen and pregnant." I feel Jane's hand on my shoulder and I bet there's a 'Jane motivation speech' coming. "Come on, he doesn't hate you, Anna-". Ah, here it comes.
"Yeah, whatever," I wave my hand carelessly, signaling for her to shut up.
"Alright, alright," Jane puts her hands up. "What do you want to talk about anyway?"
We walk upstairs, not bothering to check if someone's in the living room and head to my room. There's probably no one though. Dad is never home when I come home after school, mom is staying in a hotel in Manhattan and Ella is probably at one of her friends.
"Anna, all those times that you said you didn't have money to buy me food, you lied," Jane says, gaping at my room. She's been in my house and room over a thousand times already, but she's still impressed every time she walks through the door.
Probably because her aunt doesn't have that much money. Her parents passed away when she was a baby and her aunt was kind enough to take care of her. But her aunt Lily can only work so much and therefore, they don't have much money.
I dump my schoolbag on the floor and fall back on my bed. "Well, look. Chris's mom and my dad are dating," I hold my breath and look at the ceiling, dropping the bomb and waiting for Jane's reaction, which comes seconds after my sentence.
"Wait! What?" she exclaims and I can picture her confused face. "Yeah, it's fucked up. They're moving in tomorrow" I say, sitting up on my bed and yes, Jane has that exact confused look on her face.
"Since when does your dad have a...? When did you...? Tomorrow? I mean..." she looks at me, she's got so many questions that she can't form normal sentences. "Wait, what?" She shakes her head and laughs.
"I don't know, honestly... You know my dad," I look at Jane and shrug. "His mom knew he's married, so why even bother? Right?" I scoff and brush a hand through my hair. "Was married, anyway. They're getting divorced. But Chris and I will figure this out."
"This is soooo fucked up, girl," Jane closes her mouth and leans her head on her hand, still confused. "Please let me come over when they're here tomorrow, alright?"
I laugh and nod, walking over to my closet. "Dad said that we have to clean out the spare rooms for them." I open the closet door and immediately, a few boxes fall out.
"Jesus, what do you keep in there?" Jane asks and walks over to my desk, which is next to my closet.
"Not my clothes," I chuckle. "They're in the room next door." Jane's eyes widens. "You have a room for your clothes?" I pick up the boxes and look at her.
"Please, don't act like you didn't know," I mock her and a chuckle afterwards to let her know I'm just kidding.
Jane playfully narrows her eyes at me and yells something along the lines of "rich bitch!" before laughing as well.
