It’s the start of a new semester of another academic year and the campus cafeteria is filled with students both new and old, taking a break from a day filled with classes.

Among them are the three friends Sooyoung, Yuri and Tiffany who have finally entered their final year. Sooyoung and Yuri study theater while Tiffany is a fashion design major. They have been friends since high school, back when Tiffany was only a transfer student from the States who barely knew anyone in Seoul. They met through mutual friends and quickly hit it off. Since all three have an interest in art, they all enrolled in the same university albeit in different majors.

“Look! There she is!”

The voice is so loud and high-pitched that the three friends stop eating by reflex and turn their heads towards the source of the noise.

Right there at the next table is a group of students who are whispering and giggling while pointing at a girl who’s taking a seat at a corner table at the other side of the cafeteria, keeping her head down, obviously avoiding the commotion.

The girl is of short stature, has long dark-brown hair, pale skin and she’s carrying a large sketchbook in her hands.

“Who is that?” Sooyoung asks her two friends. “Why are they fangirling over her?”

“You don’t recognize her?” retorts Yuri. “That’s Kim Taeyeon.”

“Really? That’s her?” Sooyoung points her chopsticks at the girl. “She looks so much better than her picture. Very pretty and cute.”

“Well, duh? That famous picture of her was taken when she was seventeen! Of course she looks so much better now.”

“Who is this Kim Taeyeon?” quips Tiffany. She doesn’t have a clue what her friends are talking about.

“Apparently she’s some kind of an art prodigy,” replies Sooyoung as she resumes her meal. “When she was seventeen, she won first prize in an art contest held by United Nations. Her painting was selected as the winner out of thousands of other artwork submitted by children and teenagers from all across the globe.”

“That’s cool,” remarks Tiffany. She looks at the quiet girl with a newfound sense of admiration.

“Her work got featured in the UN Calendar and other international exhibitions after that win. She even got a scholarship from an art academy in Europe. Not sure where exactly,” Yuri says. “Since then she has become the most well-known young painter from our country.”

“Then what is she doing here?” asks Tiffany.
