warning: brief description of malnutrition and food

The next day started relatively normal. Madeline woke up, ate squirrel for breakfast before tending to Carl's dressings. She then cleaned some laundry and gathered sticks in the fields for kindling. She even had time to tend to Daryl's wounds before the day went south, the two of them discussing where Madeline was going to search for Sophia since Daryl was involuntary decommissioned.

She could tell he was pissed with having to sit out the day, having fought with Rick and her about it the night before. Even though he was listening to their requests to stay off the search, he wasn't listening to their requests to stay in the room and rest. He insisted on getting back into his tent, which Madeline begrudgingly helped do after he almost tore his stitches getting out of bed.

She was just leaving his tent when Andrea came up behind her. Madeline rose her brow at her in an almost questioning manner, to which Andrea waved the book she was carrying. "You coming to the shooting range?" Andrea asked, popping her hip out.

"No, I'm going to go continue the search where Daryl left off. See if I can see anything." Madeline answered simply, walking away before the women could try and continue the conversation. Madeline joined Dale and T-Dog in cleaning up around the RV and doing general maintenance. Madeline had asked Dale to teach her the ropes of mechanics while they were still at the Quarry, to which the older man overwhelmingly agreed to do.

They were all three talking amongst themselves when Glenn walked up with a basket of peaches and a shifty look in his eyes. He avoided meeting their eyes as he held the basket for them to grab from, his voice slightly wavering when he spoke. "You good, Glenn?" Madeline asked, to which the man merely stuttered out a "yes" before hastily walking away. "Someone's gotta teach that boy about a poker face" Madeline laughed, going back to cleaning the windows of the RV.

"Him and the eldest Greene daughter are getting awfully close, he's probably thinking he's hiding it well." Dale excused, winking at Madeline when she laughed. Madeline handed T the wrench he was pointing at, the two continuing their conversation until the sound of someone clearing their throat drew her attention away.

"Yes, Shane?" Madeline asked, turning her head to see her brother standing in front of her with his hands on his hips and a toothpick in his mouth.

"We're all going up to the fence line for shooting practice if you want to come," He extended the offer, the two of them still sort of skirting around one another.
