"I'M NOT GETTING anything." Little Carl spoke quietly, drawing the two siblings out of their light conversation.

After the M.D.R.S. left, the trio had decided to go catch frogs for some reason. Partially because Shane had told Carl about how the siblings used to do the same thing as children and how it had brought them impossibly closer. He wasn't wrong, since the three siblings had been frog catching many times before, but not for a long time. They hadn't been that impossibly close in a long time.

In the distance, the other women of the camp were doing laundry. She had already offered her help but was turned down. Emily, a little spitfire with a wonderfully dark personality, was one of the women who was over by the water, smiling and laughing with Amy.

She had met Emily on her second night at camp when she had woken up so early that the sun wasn't even up yet. She had started breakfast without Carol, and the smell must have stirred the other women since soon enough they were cooking and chatting and laughing like they had been friends since high school.

The sound of splashing took her out of her thoughts, and back onto the two boys in front of her. Her brother had waded out into the water, already knee-deep into instructions for how Carl would help him catch the frogs. She smiling softly at how happy Carl and Shane looked. She knew that both of them were worried about the men in the city, but liked how Shane knew how to take their little man's mind off of it.

"Come on, little man, show him your mean face!" Madeline laughed loudly as Carl bared his teeth and growled at the older man.

"Yes sir! Are you ready?" Shane clapped his hands, grabbing tightly onto the bucket.

"Yeah!" Carl laughed, coping with the older man's movements. There was a moment of silence before Shane began agitating the water with the bucket, supposedly sending all the frogs into Carl's net. Madeline sat back, laughing loudly as the boys began screaming joyfully.

"Let's see what ya got!" Shane announced finally, only for his smile to slightly falter when Carl pulled up the net to reveal nothing.

The woman smiled encouragingly, shaking her head, "No big deal, little man, just reset and try again. You're a natural!".

───

All smiles and laughter were cut short when the trio saw an angry Lori walk their way. Carl's posture straightened while Shane's deflated.
