A week passed quickly, and soon she had a new routine.

Madeline would wake up, help the women with laundry or farm chores before tending to the group. She spent most of her time with Beth and Maggie, making sure the former was doing better. She also spent a lot of time in the old Walker barn with Randall, as well as whoever was on watch at the time, tending to his leg. They never spoke, Shane made sure of that, and the blindfold kept him from truly knowing who she was, which eased her anxiety about a stranger being so close to her.

However, with his leg healed as good as it would be with the time crunch, Shane and Rick announced to the group that they would be taking him out at first light. Madeline was happy, hopeful that once the men returned they could go on like Randall and the mishap in town was just a fever dream.

Tensions were still high in the group, but they had come to the mutual unspoken agreement to just ignore it and act civil. Madeline watched as the car carrying the three men sped down the long driveway before turning her attention back to shirt she was mending.

She sat with Lori and Emily, the three women having settled by the fire to mend some clothes after breakfast. They all chatted amongst themselves, laughing and swapping stories. For once, it felt almost normal, like it had at the Quarry.

However, then her eyes drifted off, landing on Daryl's frame across the yard, sharpening and cleaning his bolts. He intended to go out on a hunt today, having told Rick the night before. He still hadn't moved his belongings back to the main camp, but he was beginning to be more present nonetheless. Madeline took that as a good sign. She watched him for a few moments, things still tense between the two of them. They hadn't talked much since Lori's accident, and whenever they were near each other neither of them said much.

She wasn't mad, not anymore, she just didn't know how to move on if he wasn't wanting to do the same.

"I'm thinking of making a run into town one of these days." Madeline said suddenly, cutting off the two other women who had talked quietly amongst themselves.

"You really think that's a good idea? Rick said that town was overrun!" Lori exclaimed, stitching a hole in one of Carl's shirts.

"I would go to Laurel, about fifteen minutes in the opposite direction. We haven't been though there yet." Madeline sighed. "We need dry goods, warm clothes, fuel, first aid supplies. If we intend to stay through the winter, we need to stock up. It gets dicey around these parts." Madeline continued on, earning two nods from the women.
