Something felt off.

The moment Daryl and her pulled into the abandoned grain mill, the hair on the back of her neck felt like it was standing on edge. As Hershel and Rick pulled in behind them, she placed her hand protectively on the handle of her gun.

She lifted the helmet off of her head, shaking out her hair as she went. Daryl took it from her hands, slinging it over the handle of the bike as she shakily climbed off the bike. Madeline looked around, her eyes wide as they took in their surroundings. Daryl's soft touch on her elbow drew her back, the two sharing a timid, nervous smile as he pushed her forward slightly.

As the duo walked toward the car, Madeline busied herself by pushing her hair into ponytail, shaking her head as Daryl surveyed their surroundings from beside her.

"I feel like I'm protecting the President." She muttered as she squinted into the distance, looking into the windows of the mill for anyone. She wasn't stupid, she knew there was no way they were alone here. "Too bad we don't get that sweet all-inclusive government insurance."

"Or the paycheck," Daryl responded, snorting as he nodded toward Hershel. The latter cocked his rifle as Rick jogged towards them, keeping a look out while they finish their sweep of the rest of the area.

The three of them split off, Madeline rounding one of the abandoned buildings while the other two men took off in the other direction. She grabbed one of the many weapons from her holster, her body weighed down by the countless things she had strapped to her. She faltered slightly as she noticed a fallen Walker in the tree line, as if hidden purposefully.

She broke off from the main building, scouting out some of the smaller, satellite ones first. She found it odd, as she repeatedly turned down halls and threw open closed doors, that she didn't stumble upon a single Walker. The darkness of the rooms, the thick backdrop of trees, and the very obvious blood splatter in some of the rooms pointed to prime real estate for Walker gatherings.

She came back around the corner of the main building a few minutes later, her weapon still drawn. She easily found Daryl in the distance checking behind the many grain silos. She entered the building hesitantly, keeping her steps silent as she walked through the empty front room. The floor was littered with papers, a desk overturned and pushed into the middle of the room.

In the next room, she could see Rick's still form, his gun held firmly in his hand. She sighed as she followed after him, though the moment she stepped into the room he whipped around, shaking his head. She opened her mouth to talk, but any words fell flat as her eyes fell on another man's form in the corner.
