Sleep hasn't come, with all those thoughts of the party going on in my head and the thoughts of my uncle. Maybe it's about everything I learned these past few months, my parents dying, Joey dying, James dying, getting Chico, living with the Reynolds and now this, my uncle. After a while of not falling asleep, I decided on getting late night snacks or something.
Finally after willing myself out of bed while Chico is still asleep and leaving my room. Not wanting to wake anyone up, I took light steps every second I go down. Now to head down and as I was going to, I hear some voices. Not everyone was asleep as lights were still on in the living room. Recognising the voices belonging to Sarah and Uncle Alex in deep conversation. Mainly a discussion about me. I know it's wrong of me to eavesdrop but if it's something about me, then it's important to know about this.
I heard Uncle Alex asking the Sarah, "How has Lola been settling after Tagen and Peter passed away?"
I heard Sarah sigh, "as typical as it is for most kids, after her parent's passed away things have never been easy."
"How so?" He asks.
"Well ever since the incident, she wasn't herself, fainting on the first month at elementary school before getting her homeschooled, shunning everyone away, crying and nightmares."
He asked, "Oh dear, any more, did she make any friends?"
"She didn't." She answered him sorrowfully, "but there was one until three months a car crash killed him. "
She was talking about Jamie Parker.
I heard Uncle Alex gasp, "I think she needs help."
"I agree, sometimes I worry, the owner at the orphanage have informed me of her daily life and I still do."
"I have received a letter last month." He takes a paper out of his pocket handing it to her.
She read it for a moment, reading it through again and again, "What about Ace and Donny?"
He takes a deep breath, "I know but Lola needs to be with her family."
"My boys have accepted her like a sister."
"Just because they live far away from each other doesn't mean they can't stay like siblings."
"But..."
"No buts." He says calming her, "I know you tried to help her but what she needs is family and so do I."
I can hear Sarah weeping in sorrow but I took a little peek seeing Uncle Alex comforting her.
"This is what my sister Tagen and her husband Peter would have wanted and trust me, she can visit you when she can."
"You're right." She says, "Please keep her safe." I didn't even realized I have been crying as I almost bit my tongue from making noises.
Snapping out I felt more tears running while I was sitting on the window seat leaning on the glass staring at the distance. I heard a squawk from the parrot who is curled sleeping in my arms.
I gently rub his head making sure he doesn't wake up. I still can't go to sleep so I carry on staring at the night sky, I can see the moon shining as if it is watching me making sure if I'm alright, even the stars are twinkling, they were shiny bright as I felt myself drift off to sleep without any past time memories.
"Lola, wake up!" A scream of Junes voice wakes me up from my sleep nearly banging my head on to the roof ceiling,
"What, time is it?" I moan, rubbing my head and Chico jumped off my chest.
