"Lola Woods, wake up, you're already late for your first school day." The was a voice of my uncle yelling, I thought he must have misunderstood because usually I do homeschooling, when he yelled the second time louder, "Come on, rise and shine, you don't want to be late on your first day."
This time I bolted right up as a bullet, startling Chico who almost flew up. I quickly change into my normal clothes, top jeans, since it's still winter even though there's no snow outside I still wore boots and a sweater over my clothes. It was embarrassing that I accidently tripped multiple of times like a klutz.
I rushed downstairs with Chico following behind me like a little chick following its mother. The breakfast was already made so I ate cereal with milk, apple and a pineapple juice. While I ate my food Uncle Alex filled Blinky's bowl with his cat food and Chico's bowl with seed mix. I didn't expect him to do it, oh well I guess school days starts very early and time drags you down like in movies with the main character rushing everything and screaming his or her head off.
"Come on Lola, grab your coat and school bag, we're almost late." Uncle Alex says but almost smiling at my sudden reaction. My face already heat up.
Oh great, I definitely don't want to disappoint myself on the first day of school for the first time in a very long time. I quickly ran up to my room to wrap my blue scarf around my neck and grabbed my school messenger bag which was mint green with a feather logo, I guess I've become a fan of feathery things. I think because of my parrot I started to have a thing for feathers.
Oh no, I'm late, so I rush back downstairs almost got myself tripped when I grabbed the stair handle and balanced myself.
Uncle Alex was waiting for me along with Chico sitting on my shoulder. I sent him my sheepish grin just as I jumped down the bottom of the stairs gasping for air. My uncle opened the door for me and we stepped outside. He took me to school inside his car on the first day.
When we reached the school, the building was really big, there were two gates, one for middle school and the other high school. My uncle drove me to the middle school entrance since I'm actually thirteen and this is where I should be going then.
Uncle Alex said sadly, "Lola, I'll see you later but I won't be at home after school because I have cars and machines to build and repair at John's Mechanic but I'll give you a spare key, you know the way back home, don't you?"
"Uh, I'll try." I say as he hands me a spare key, "When will you be back?"
"5:00 pm, so don't worry and be on your best behavior, alright?" He says as he reaches over, gives me another hug, a crushing hug and I stayed relaxed from the contact, "and another thing Chico can't come inside the building but he'll watch over you." He says to him, "Chico, I'm putting her under your care, alright boy."
Chico squawked, "Alright, I'll look after her, I'll look after her."
Uncle Alex chuckled and patted his head and I saw him drive away to his work place after I stepped out of the car.
I turn to Chico, "I'll see you at lunch boy, why don't you fly around, free as a bird."
He squawked and flew to a nearby tree where he could see me. I gave him a wink before I entered the gates.
There were hundreds of young kids walking around minding their own little business and some going along with their lives. Some of them smiled at me when they saw me and some of them just ignored. Somehow with all these other kids my age, I almost lost thoughts in my tracks.
I began to feel a little nervous in this unfamiliar place because I don't know where to find the principal's office so I just stood in the middle of nowhere. It's been a long time since the last time I went to a school. I just stood there remembering the first day I actually came to school. It wasn't pleasant or exciting, I didn't even bother making friends or talk to anyone. Until I felt someone bump into me and I landed on my sides.
