The sight of New England was breathtaking with views of luxurious buildings, houses, churches, trees, the mountains and the beach that stood on the edge of the sea. Chico was really excited when he sees the view inside his cage. He just curiously looks at everything.
"This place is refreshing." I commented, "don't you think?"
Uncle Alex glanced from the mirror at me, said, "You'll love it here, I just know you will. You'll get to go to the woods in New England, I hear from Sarah Reynold, she tells me how much you love exploring and hanging out in parks. So many trees live in these woods and the beach over here is refreshing, common for couples and families for their summer vacations."
"Wow I can't wait." I say as I catch my breath taking in the view of everything.
Uncle Alex chuckled, "Not right now, it's still winter and you'll get to go there in spring."
"Oh yeah." I grin, "but what about parks, I could still go to one, right?"
"Of course you can, there's one close to your new home where your mother met your Dad the first time."
My mouth opens, "Clare told me the whole story how they met and it was kind of like a romantic love story."
He chuckles, "You know Lola, your ginger hair looks similar to your father's."
I breathe in air, "If Dad didn't save my mother, I wouldn't be here, right."
His expression changed to sadness, "Yeah, that's true but you shouldn't say things like that."
"Sorry." I apologized guiltily.
We have come to a stop where a house came in sight which I could tell it was my uncle's home and the house looks not too big and not too small.
It was surrounded by fences, grass and there are few trees standing closer. The bricks of the house was in a cream shaded colour, there were few windows hanging around the house.
Uncle Alex got out came round to open the door for me and I stepped out with Chico's cage in my arms.
"This is going to be your new home from now on." Uncle Alex says to me with gladness, "Let me grab your luggage for you."
"Thanks."
He took my luggage out of the car and we made our way inside side by side. When we came in, I hear a little meow sound of a little kitten coming from the living room inside the house.
Uncle Alex asks, "Why don't you take a good look around while I take your bird cage to your your new room?"
"Sure." I nod, "Can I let him out, please?"
"As long as he behaves and I don't want any mess."
After I let Chico out of his cage, he stretched his bright green wings flying around for a stretch and landed on my right shoulder and Uncle Alex left us alone while he left for upstairs.
As I look around further. First I went to see the living room where there was a TV, couch leaning on the wall opposite it and two plant pots, one had a tall bamboo tree and the other one had a spider plant in. The walls were painted in light red and white.
Next I went inside a kitchen with green and brown tiles reminding me of Aero bars in mint flavour. There was a small round table for at least three people and one of the chairs looks like it hadn't been sat on in a long time. This could have been where Alex's wife sat while she was still alive. I didn't bother touching it because it could send shivers down the spine.
Also all the kitchen stuff are there, oven, cooker, fridge and the washing machine. Can Uncle Alex cook?
I felt something soft curling against my leg, I thought it was a snake, I kind of tripped myself but I caught myself. When I looked down the thing that curled on my leg was actually a cute little white fur with orange ears, legs and tail kitten. So the meow wasn't just an illusion.
It ducked its head down feeling guilty for frightening me.
"Sorry little one, didn't mean to scare you." I say, kneeling down on my right knee, showing patting it's head feeling it's purr whilst touching it's skin, I look at Chico, "Look Chico, looks like we made a new friend."
Chico was happy so he sat on the floor making the cute little kitten turn it's head towards him. It got up from his spot and tried to pounce on him but Chico quickly dodged it making the kitten land on its paws, I chuckled.
"Looks like you two have already gotten along." Chico took off and flew back on my shoulder while the little kitten climbed on my knee curling against my tummy with its head. I held the collar tag that says Blinky, "nice to meet you Blinky."
Chico must be feeling disappointed because he turned his head to the side without looking at Blinky.
"Someone's getting jealous," Chico just ignored so he rubbed his head on my neck, "Well you two will have to get along."
I got off the floor making Blinky jump off my lap and began to follow Chico and I around. I went upstairs where the bathroom and three bedrooms are along with a storage closet is.
"Lola in here." I heard my uncle's voice coming from the bedroom to my right which I followed his voice from. Once I opened the door I found my uncle unpack my luggage.
I stopped him, "Let me do that."
"Are you sure, I've already unpacked half of your clothes." He says meeting my eye with a fatherly smile. I was stunned by the way he looks at me.
"No let me take care of that. I'm sure you have other things to to do." I grin.
"Alright if you say so and then you can have a nice warm bath to help you relax from the train ride."
Then he walked out of the room with his little kitten Blinky following him behind.
I take in the surrounding of my new bedroom, the wall was painted in white and one side was painted green, Uncle must have guess my colour. There was a double window with a handle and a window seat, a single bed with white covers with blue and green blanket and a wardrobe. Next to the wardrobe was two sets of bookshelf for my books to read.
After I unpacked everything, I took out my picture frames, one of my family and the other one of the kid me and Jamie standing together. I glanced at them both, taking a deep breath and turned my head away. I was supposed to forget the past but its still so hard that it is still there.
I unwrapped the blue scarf around my neck and placed it on my bed along with my round wing clockwork pendent on my bed so that I can take a bath. I pulled open my wardrobe and pulled out a random outfit and a towel.
I went outside of my room, trying to find the bathroom until I found one which was opposite of my bedroom. Once I stepped inside, the toilet seat, sink and bathtub with a shower were white.
I took off my clothes and stepped inside. Once the tap was on, I let the water rain on me washing away all the stress and dirt off my body.
I finished having shower and pull my clothes on making my body feel fluffy like a grizzly bear. I went back inside my room and wore the necklace and scarf which my parents gave me. At least these two things I like to keep treasured because its all I had that survived from that fire that has eaten my first home that I lived with my parents as a child.
I sat on the window seat with Chico sitting next to me. Looking out of the window, the view from here is perfect, you could see trees, the beach and the hill from here. I wanted to stay on this spot forever just the two of us.
