I breathe in air the moment Chico and I entered the house, the first thing I noticed was there was a delicious smell coming all the way from the kitchen. I tiptoe a little by the door, to peek inside to check it out. I giggled silently to myself, Sarah was there cooking food for evening Christmas dinner while singing a Christmas song to herself.
I smiled, walking in to the kitchen to stand beside her to see what she's cooking.
"Hello Sarah!" I greet her with a smile, "Nice singing."
She looks up her face turning red before smiling back, I giggled again, "Hello Lola, you're back from the walk?"
"Yeah and I visited the orphanage again." I tell her excitedly and show her the cookies, "and guess what, Andrea offered some of her delicious cookies."
"That was really nice of her." Sure comments with a big smile, "Did you know a friend of mine is coming, his name is Alex."
"Alex? You mean Donny's, Ace's and June's uncle" I blink for a while, "but I thought he was your brother."
"Well not really! But we treat him like one" She says with a sly smile for an adult to have an altitude like that.
"What do you mean?" I ask in surprise.
She takes a deep breath, "Well he is like a brother but when he was your age, he was in a situation you we're in, his parents died in an accident and my family took him and his little sister in under our care, it was him who took the accident really hard."
"Oh that's why Ace and Donny call him uncle." Then I shared a glance with Chico before eyeing back at her, "who is his sister anyway?"
" His sister's name was Tagen Stones, " my eyes go wide in realization, "Yes Alex Stones is your true uncle."
I gasped taking a little step back, "This can't be." I breathe again, "this can't be happening."
"Lola." She reached her hand out, "Just calm..."
I take a few steps further back, turning around, gasping for breath running upstairs. When I reached the bottom of the attic stairs, a door to my right opened revealing Donny frowning confused but I ignore him and continue reaching the attic room without a second glance. June and Ace was there playing a board game of snakes and ladders.
"Hey Lola, come play with us." Ace says catching my attention but I shrug and head towards the window will. Gasping for breath again opening the window
"I don't feel like playing, sorry." I say to him, leaning my head on the window, " you can carry on playing. "
"Are you sure?" He asks, I turn my head to both of them giving them a small nod, "Alright if that makes you happy."
I take a sigh while they carry on playing their game, I can hear them talking about who will win while I continue to stare at the window but it wasn't the outside I'm looking at, but my mind goes somewhere else. Chico takes a seat on the window sill closer to me as I rub his little red head while I think to myself. With the blink of an eye, the weather outside its still snowy as more snow falls from the sky covering the whole town in a blanket of white. But that's not what I'm thinking of.
Why did Sarah or Mom hide this new secret information of my mysterious uncle who I never knew about from me. This isn't fair, all this time since Mom and Dad died, why did they not tell me about my uncle all this time. All these years, I thought I didn't have any blood related family left to know me alive or dead. Don't I have a right to know about my family heritage?
"Why? Oh why?" I mutter to my self bumping my head lightly on the window glass. I press my head on the window sill for a few seconds till tears sting my eye. Chico senses the tears in my eye until he sits on my arm using his beak to rub the tears away. I sniff them back as I breathe.
