I thought I would wake up in the attic bedroom at Sarah's house but when I looked around my surroundings, I realised I was sleeping on a different bed with Chico and this time he slept curled up next to me under these blankets. I smiled, circling my arms around his body protectively. I stayed like this for a few moments with my bird before gently letting go.
I got out of the bed and I changed from my nightie to my normal clothes.
It is the first of January and it has been three days since I got here. In those three days, Uncle Alex took me strolling around the city for couples of times as well as introducing me to couple of his friends.
Today I'm going to be celebrating the New Years Eve celebration with my uncle at the park he's taking me there in the evening, a lot of people are going to be there. He says that, they will have a fair running up and this would be a time to spend with my uncle. I didn't deny the event but then again this is the opportunity to get closer to him.
Another thought coming in my head, I still need to sort Chico's stand which Sarah bought for me at the pet's supply store, so I still need to ask my uncle if he could build it since Sarah told me he is a mechanic.
I brushed my teeth and got changed in my usual clothes and wrapped my scarf around my neck. I wore a warm skinny blue jeans with a red tank top under my black sweater. I loved the day today, I just have this feeling or maybe I'm just excited about the fair tonight.
I can hear Chico waking up from the room, spreading his winds and landed on my left shoulder once I came in. I took the parrot stand box with me, it was little heavy but I still held it in my arms.
I stumble a little as I try to drag the box down the stairs and for that reason I had to slightly brush Chico off my shoulder because it would be hard and for safety reasons for the risk of getting hit.
"Lola, you're up already and what took you that long to..." The voice of Uncle Alex says as he eyes the box I'm holding, "You want me to build that, for you?"
"I would appreciate it, Chico could get board and lonely while I'm just sitting at school." I say meeting his eyes.
"I wish I could." He pauses, " but I have other cars and machines to fix and repair at John's Machanic but I'll work on it when I have the time."
I question, "What if he gets board without me hanging with him?"
"He likes to stay close to you doesn't he?" I nodded, "does he follow you if you hang outside?"
"Yes he's been doing that for months but you know I can't bring him to school and I can't leave him outside on his own." I say worriedly just imagining the thought of him on his own, "What if someone takes him away?"
Uncle Alex comes in front of me holding my shoulder, " Don't worry, he'll be safe, he's a bird, birds have wings that allows them to fly. " he pauses, "Have you ever watched Looney tunes when you were little?"
I gave him a child-like smile, " Yeah. "
"You know Tweety that yellow canary." I nod, " he knows how to find granny."
"I get it, pet birds know how to find their owners by flying."
"Exactly, they use their birds eye view to search around for their food."
I gave him a huge hug before sitting on the table. Uncle Alex doesn't allow me to sit on the abandoned spot because he says that's where his wife always used to sit and doesn't let anyone touch it or it would break his heart and causes him grief.
So I sat on the other seat. My uncle cooks and someday he will teach me some cooking lessons. I've never cooked before, because I was young and the homes I lived in, it's always Sarah and Andrea that cooks.
