Chapter 22

After we have finally finished eating dinner, we asked Sarah if June, Ace and I could do some baking and she agreed excitedly as long as we don't make too many mess in the kitchen. Ace and I took the ingredients out while June took out the tools and bowls. Ace took out a recipe book called Quick Easy Steps.

June comes standing next to us asking, "What do you kids think we should bake today?"

We all look through pages of recipes from the book and so far everything in the book looks delicious as we can't decide which recipe we should bake.

"How about lemon cupcakes?" Ace asks "I love lemon cupcakes, they're sweet and lemony."

His choice makes me hungry just thinking about it but June shrugs, skimming through pages, "What about chocolate devil cake?"

"Even tasty, you guys are making me hungry with these choices, just pick something already." I mumble with wonder in my eyes.

"Your dreaming!" June teases me," of cake."

"I can't help it, they're all look so good looking and tasty." I moan out loud.

"Can I join?" Donny suddenly walks in grinning sheepishly.

I face him with a grin of my own, "Can you cook?"

"Of course I can and you've never seen me." He says grinning wider, "I've helped Mom couple of times."

"No you can't!" June shouts, grabbing his arms, pushing Donny out of the kitchen, "Since when did you start being so nice and caring?"

"I've always cared." Donny calms down a little, "You know, you're right, I have been mean all these years but now I just want to spend some time with my cousin, family and friends." He referred the last part to me, "but she is family."

June stops pushing him away and looked at him, "Y-you do?"

Donny replies, "Yeah, since Lola came along, it's like my life has come back to life." Looking at me, "she is like our sister and now that I've found out Uncle Alex is actually your uncle for real, you're kind of like our cousin too."

"Not cousin, sister." Ace corrected.

My cheeks began turning red because of what he said, "I am?"

"Yeah, you're all my family, you too Lola." He says making me smile wider.

Ace runs up to him pulling me along with him, wrapping his arm around his brother in a hug with me crushed between them, "Oh big brother, I knew you'd always care even when your grumpy."

Donny hugged us both in a group hug until Ace pulls June to join us yelling, "Group hug!"

We pull each other apart and went back to baking.

Donny decided, "let's make our own baking!"

"Thats a good idea!" I say punching my fist in the air while Chico sits on one of the chairs repeating everything we say.

Both June and Ace agree so we began helping each other. Donny grabs a bowl, mixing flour and sugar, June mixes butter and cream, then she places her mixture into the bowl Donny is working on and Ace cracks the eggs and place it in the bowl and I mixed the whole mixture together. Finally we poured the mixture in a tin and place it in the oven to bake.

"That was fun!" I say and so far it looks like we baked a square shape cake. After the cake had warmed up, Donny grabbed a cloth and carefully pulled out the tin making sure he doesn't bake himself with firey heat on his skin.

"Let's leave the cake to cool down for few minutes and then we can decorate it." Donny orders, "while we wait, why don't we clean everything?"

We all nod in agreement, June and I wash the dishes, Ace clears the worktop and Donny helps Ace.
